Figma Heaven ~ Vocaloid Kagami and Co

It really is turning out to be Kagami idol day for me. Kagabobo-whatever-its-name-is (see previous post) ticked me of such that I decided to pose my Lucky Star Figmas. I apologize in advance for all the drivel that may be evident in this post…but would you just look at this lot!

Kagami is seriously pissed at having to dress up as Hatsune Miku (watch the OVA), much to Konata’s delight. Tsukasa records all on her cell, while Miyuki just smiles…

“Boo Boo Kagaboo” FAIL

Words fail me.

First Kadokawa humiliate the Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu series…now they wish to ruin my Kagami as well. What the hell is this? BooBoo Kagaboo? How is it possible that there is a doujin with this…this…ugly PIG thing as protagonist? And it is supposed to be a parody of tsundere queen Hiragii Kagami? SACRILEGE!

IGN Ranks Top 25 Most Popular Anime Characters

We all have that favorite series that we keep going back and watching. Mine is Lucky Star. However, despite my ever drooling over that series and the lovely protagonists therein, I always knew in my heart that none of my beloved Lucky Star girls would compare to legendary characters of anime past. Why do I know this? Well, the people at IGN have tallied their opinions of who belongs in the top 25 most popular anime characters of all time, and after reading I could not help but agree (mostly).

The criteria used to judge each character was their ever lasting fame and the impact they had on both the industry and their particular genre. Without spoiling the article, which I insist you go check out, I was pleased to see that most of my guesses made their way into the top 25. Our glorified SOS brigade leader was among them, and righteously so. She made a big impact in the world a few years ago, and still remains dominant even today.

As for Lucky Star, while it was (and indeed still is) enormously popular and fun, no individual character carried the series alone, rather it was a glorious team effort.

So check out IGN’s top 25. What is your opinion on the most popular (or influential) anime character? Did your favorite even make it onto IGN’s list?

You can find the list here.

Lucky Star Dance Reaches Critical Nerdiness

Before you comment about it, yes, we are entirely aware that we are late to the party. In the interest of being comprehensive, though, we present to you the Lucky Star opening meticulously re-done with Transformers.

Ok, everyone can stop making these now. I’m pretty sure kkal won.

Vocaloid Kagami En Route!

Just a short post to convey my general feelings of happiness on this day. After a 3 week wait (not a long time by any standards but still arduous for moi) YesAsia has just notified me that my Vocoloid Kagami Figma has been shipped. She is on her way. My Kagami idol in vocoloid cosplay (not of her will if you remember, watch the Lucky Star OVA if you don’t) has become very popular and as such there is a bit of demand. Nevertheless, the wait is over and hopefully she will be here in a few days.

On another note, a good friend of mine came across the Lucky Star-Macross figures on Ebay, the shock of which nearly killed him. The entire set can be bought for US$330, figures, plushies and all. Anyone willing to cough up that kind of money?

Lucky Star Girls Destroy Mind With Macross Cosplay

Sometimes in life an event just knocks you over, completely leveling all logical thought, leaving you babbling incoherently until you do something to alleviate the problem. This mental jaw-drop occurs for me whenever I see these new figures of the Lucky Star girls I adore cosplaying as characters from another favorite anime, Macross Frontier. Moe blindside delivered right to the eyes.

KyoAni Wants To Turn YOUR Idea Into Anime

Kyoto Animation, the studio behind Haruhi, K-On! and Lucky Star, has announced a new contest aimed at independent authors and artists. The Kyoto Animation Award invites anybody, whether pro or amateur, to submit their work in one of three categories: novel, script or manga. The top entry in each category will win a prize of ¥300,000 and have the possibility of being animated by KyoAni. Runners-up will take home ¥100,000. The contest rules do not mention any restrictions on the location, nationality or professional status of the entrant, nor on the genre or content of the work itself. However, the entry does have to be in Japanese. (Thanks to Dazza for pointing that out.)

So, is KyoAni actually trying to give some aspiring author or artist their big break… or have they simply run out of ideas?

Lucky Star Figma Fever: Summer Vs Winter?

You know that glowing feeling you revel in after going to an anime festival? Well that lasts only a month unless you have something real to show for it. In this case, I was happy to come home from Manifest with a few Good Smile Lucky Star Winter Version Figmas to complete my collection. Was not really my intention to buy them, but am sure glad I splurged. However, the lovely Good Smile Company has decided to release a new range of Lucky Star Figmas in order to continue tempting absolute fan boys like myself. Now that all the girls have been announced, the only thing holding me back from acquiring is my potentially fatal lack of money…
