On this episode of Bakacast, we finally get around to talking about the new Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt episodes. Turns out we still love Thunderbolt, y’all. Also discussed on this episode: the tactical usage of summoned hands, why Seikaisuru Kado not having character arcs is actually okay, and now Nina from Rage of Bahamut is slowly growing on us.

As the spring season leaves the honeymoon phase, we start to turn a more critical eye toward some of the shows that have made it this far. And by “some of the shows” I mostly mean just Grimoire of Zero. And by “we” I mostly mean myself. On the bright side, I do catch up with Seikaisuru Kado and find myself impressed by it. Also, Ben kept his word from last week and marathoned Kemono Friends. Did he enjoy it? Will he pass on the infection to me, as well? Stay tuned for the answer. (It’s “yes.” The answer is “yes.”)

And unlike the main characters, all of us managed to survive.

Not only does this episode of Bakacast mark the end of the Winter 2017 season, but it also marks the end of me hosting these things on Libsyn. Starting at the next episode, we’ll be part of the Audio Entropy podcast network. I will, however, still be posting shownotes like this on Project Haruhi in addition to Audio Entropy; and assuming an RSS feed merger works like I think it should, there shouldn’t be a need to swap RSS subscriptions. Ultimately, this change will save me a whole lot of money each year and (hopefully) bring in more listeners for both Bakacast and the podcasts my friends are doing over at Audio Entropy.

You can’t have him. I already called dibs.

On this episode of Bakacast, we finish off the spring stragglers and marvel at the idea that Flying Witch was not only the best show of the season but also basically perfect. We also do a quick roundup of the shows we haven’t been reviewing weekly, such as Luluco, Macross Delta and Kuromukuro.

“What if Vin Diesel was a moeblob?” is one of the questions that keeps me up at night.

On this episode of Bakacast, we bid farewell to Bakuon. You were an okay show. Gundam Unicorn and Flying Witch didn’t air the week we recorded, so JoJo’s, Hero Academy, and (unfortunately) Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress are the only shows we reviewed. Thankfully, we had the Girls Und Panzer movie around to fill the gap, and boy did it do a good job of that.

That’s one way to motivate a teenage mecha pilot.

Bakuon continues to exist as a show that we neither hate nor love, Hero Academy continues to be totally rad, Flying Witch continues to be the best show this season, and Gundam Unicorn continues to be filled with angst.

Larry wins the Pun Olympics.

On this episode of Bakacast, I debut our new opening song composed by Mitchell Dill. It’s not the final version, but I figured it’d be fun to switch things up post-episode-300. Also, I reveal my plans for what the next season will bring. Basically, I’ll be taking a brief hiatus from the normal Bakacast schedule (since I’ve been watching, recording and editing for 6 years straight now). Instead of doing weekly reviews, I’ll instead be going through the first two arcs of JoJo’s with three people who’ve never watched the show before (plus Megan). These episodes will go up in place of the weekly episodes we’d normally put up for the summer season, and we’ll return to the normal Bakacast stuff when the fall season starts.

Now, this doesn’t mean you won’t get ANY summer reviews from us. Whether it takes the form of posts on this blog or short, additional recordings with Ben and Larry every three weeks or so, we’ll still be giving our thoughts on whatever summer shows we decided to watch.
