Like if Satoshi Kon was obsessed with Legos.

Instead of using this spot to summarize some points we make in the podcast, I’ll inform y’all that we did not record anything on Thanksgiving week, because it was Thanksgiving week. So we’ll be doubling up on episode reviews during the next recording. Also also: I’ve been thinking about the workload that goes into making these podcasts lately, and how it takes a lot of time away from other content I’d like to be creating more regularly (as well as negatively impacting my performance on this podcast). The initial idea I brought up to my cohosts was a hiatus for the winter season, but that’s only a temporary solution; and I believe we’ve landed on a better one. Or are at least adjacent to a better one. We’ll let you know what we’ve decided on as soon as we’ve actually decided on it.

Bakacast #274 – Hanekawa Haters to the Left

You’re just jealous of her hair.

Now, look, I will concede that there may have been a time in the past where Hanekawa was one of the weakest cast members. But now ain’t that time, and if you’re not on board with the new and improved Catekawa, then I’m afraid I’m gonna have to ask you to leave the Cool Anime Club. Anyway, aside from the satisfying conclusion of Sodachi Lost where Hanekawa dunks on Ougi, Ushio to Tora decides to mix time travel with lots of murder, Utawarerumono has yet another dang bath house episode, Gundam gets some sweet space battles, Concrete Revolutio compels me to try and explain the concept of the Great Lakes Avengers, and One Punch Man gets a lot more shounen.

Oh yeah, and Perfect Insider is basically still…uh…perfect.

And only one of them is any good.

This Bakacast is really delayed, and I’m sorry about that. Life has been a bit hectic lately, particularly while I’m on the lookout for a new job. The next episode will likely be edited and up a couple days after this one, because I can’t stand having a backlog anymore. As for the podcast itself, on this episode we question the new direction Utawarerumono has taken, examine the very interesting but flawed portrayal of depression in Owarimonogatari, invoke Tomino in Concrete Revolutio, and actually have an argument for once when Noragami Aragoto affects Ben and me in two very different ways.

During listener questions, I mention many of the media critics I follow. Here are the links I promised to y’all can check them out.

You knew this was gonna be the album art. It had to be.

This week on Bakacast, you get a whole lot of Cynical Dustin. In my defense, I feel like Utawarerumono’s bath scenes, Owarimonogatari’s do-nothing pacing, and…whatever the hell Noragami Aragoto is doing to Bishamon gave me plenty to be cynical about.

One Punch Man, however, continues to be perfect. I am convinced it will always be perfect (well, except for when it introduces certain characters I have heard things about).

Yeah, sure, Dustin, just reference a Wachowski movie that no one watched.

This week on Bakacast, Luke and I discuss an anime where girls play a card game that promises to grant them their deepest, darkest wishes. You know, like boning your twin brother. Meanwhile, Comet Lucifer has become too annoying to bother with, Utawarerumono introduces an awesome bird and a terrible princess, and Garo once again shows that Seimei is the best.

They definitely aren’t following OSHA regulations.

This ended up being a pretty jam-packed fall season. To the point where–if Heavy Object is the only show we drop–it’d take around 6 hours to watch everything. That’s…a little insane, so we’ll probably end up making cuts to shows that aren’t bad but also aren’t quite interesting enough. So I apologize in advance if I make an executive decision to stop reviewing your favorite show; but in my defense, I would probably go insane doing this every week.

Also, during listener questions I end up rambling about the various sources I get my remixes from. Some of them come from me discovering them randomly through social media channels, but I also list off a few sources I regularly turn to for ending music. For convenience sake, those sources are: various Youtube channels I follow (particularly shoopfex, Triple-Q and Botanic Sage), OCRemix, and MashupYourBootz.

Also also, please watch the best AMV I’ve seen in my life. No, seriously, it’s incredible.
