I've got hirogana down pretty much perfectly in a grand total of 6 hours =D
Now to improve my actual Japanese by a lot. At least it meant I don't need romaji any more =p

Say you feel like learning something completely new. Languages get dull if you spend your entire life speaking them. If your native tongue isn't English... say that English is ALSO getting boring.

I always wanted to learn another language just for fun. I only picked Japanese because I have a lot of exposure to it through anime and manga, as opposed to Russian or Chinese with which I have very little experience. Frankly, going through all the trouble of learning a language just so you can watch certain TV shows is a little silly, in my opinion

I'd suggest mentioning that you'd like to learn a language, but haven't decided on which one yet. Then bring up Japanese a few days later and use the same reasoning I gave.
