A new challenger appears

Post by Mandril »

Herro brothers of the anime faith.

My name is Mandril and I've been sent here by Canti-sama to monitor your progress. During the upcoming years I will be keeping a close eye on your discussions and even butt into the exchange if the Gods deem it a necessity.
In order to facilitate interaction with minimum friction, here is some data to process.

I generally like anything that exhibits original ideas. I'm disillusioned with the current state of anime and struggle to find shows that appeal to my sensibilities.
I loathe it when one of the main characters is an annoyingly cheerful girl with a creamy voice and a low IQ (Deadman Wonderland, Steins;Gate, Hanasaku Iroha) - I desperately try to overcome such barriers and I watch these shows regardless, for their underlying fundamentals are sound.

I appreciate the existence of the following shows:

Kemonozume
FLCL
Aishiteruze Baby
Jungle wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu
Bubblegum Crisis
La Maison en Petits Cubes
Baccano!
Cowboy Bebop
Serial Experiments Lain
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Mushishi
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Tatami Galaxy
Cat Soup
Mahoujin Guru Guru

Thank you kindly for your attention and please go on with your business as usual.

Like a panda with a mean face, or like sandals with pressure points drawn on them, or the smell of a blackboard eraser, or a Sunday morning where you wake up and it's raining. Well, I like him more than hard bread.

Ooh a challenger!

Hi Mandril, welcome to PH.

If you liked Baccano, watch Durarara!

I don't like Durarara as much as Baccano... I regard Durarara as an attempt to make Baccano's core ideas work for a japanese audience. Since I'm not in that audience, Baccano works better for me.
Durarara is still one of the best things to come out in recent years though.

Well said. I like both equally, and really enjoy the twisting plot style. Baccano, though, was more conclusive and dealt a satisfying end to the unraveled story.
