Have you tried the product known as Spam?.. You'll find it has a unique, distinctive flavor and most people don't take to it readily.Pandemonium wrote:I tend to prefer the more strict forums =p

I guess the fact that this is a Haruhi site has somewhat affected my judgment here. For this reason I'll use her actions as an example.
After Kyon's rant about clubs, early in the story, Haruhi had the idea to create her own. She screamed this out in the middle of class. This would be the off-topic revelations we find so common here. Yet she did sit down and glare pathetically at Kyon rather continue the conversation when this fact was forced down her throat.
Kyon is, and has always been (particularly by Itsuki), considered her moderator.
She then, rather than disrupt again, waited until class was over to realize this idea. If she hadn't she'd have caused herself and Kyon trouble for disrupting the group. She did show restraint there.
Surely that should be how any successful forum should operate?
Shami, what did you expect of this site? We were all drawn here by Haruhi (:P), and the prospect of Season 2. Well as far as I know that is still over the horizon, therefore we are in the waiting room, so to speak. I guess (and I am not finger pointing) lack of input from forum moderators leaves active members the overall responsibility of maintaining topics, so naturally the conversation drifts, before a sharp *crack* from nagato's wip is felt, or a penetrating glare from Shami silences all.Shamisen wrote:Cause these forums aren't living up to my expectations.
Noted... As for what I was hoping for from these forums, like a previous site I came from. It seems the series is in limbo, so there is little new information a foot and although it's turning into a chat room per-say. I don't know, I'm fairly frustrated with both sites and the lack of enthusiasm for some of the core members their in.xsirhc wrote:It's true spam is everywhere here. However while S2 is over the horizon, we each have to rely on our interest in anime culture to drive conversations, otherwise this forum would be very quiet. I enjoy chatting with everyone here, most seem to share the same love of anime as I do.

If you are worried that the Tsuruya’s Insanity section has gotten a little bit big, then maybe we should assign a task to each of the active members here. Inject some interest into each of the forums, some responsibility. Something which can be reported back each week and discussed, relating to Haruhi or any other anime/manga that everyone seems to enjoy. That way we could spend less time in the spam section, with the added benefit of finding new series to watch/read from different people. Lucky Star, Clannad were two short lived examples. Perhaps this idea could be modified into special events where one topic becomes, through everyone inputting, the topic of interest. E.g. Haruhi S2 ~ everyone find some info on it for 1 week. To do that, however, we need more initiative from the forum moderators, because that's where all the decisions are made.
I really like this forum and the members involved, and am willing to help in any way maintain the unique style that drew me here.
Now thats enough thesis for now, breakfast time. Brain smarts a bit...
Logged and also noted .. I need to run, this is not the end of this conversation by any means...Pandemonium wrote:I believe I may have made suggestions in the 'Nagato's Mansion' section of the site some time previously.
Most of the rules I think should be put in place are pretty much stolen directly from another site... but, if they work, there shouldn't be any problem. Besides; I'd never remember all 30+ rules they have in place.
My main suggestion would be one I've seen work very effectively on another site (Joel and Xagor should agree, also). that would be a minimum or 3 main content words per post. Though, in my opinion that could be a few more. By main content I mean excluding hyperlinks, quotes etcetera.
I also hold the same opinion for a rule against double-posting. I've moaned at people for this previously. It clutters up topics with signatures and post separators. The only problem with this is in the case of posts exceeding the character limits... but that could easily be had as an exception.
I think that, in the case of off-topicness, a warning should suffice. If it doesn't return to the topic... locking. Deletion of a topic just gets a 'eh-whut'. Locking goes a long way to prove a point. Deletion of posts is best reserved for trolls and such. even then... it's still best to lock the topics they make, rather than deleting them (unless the content is ***** or excessive bad language). The site I mentioned also banned those who replied to the topic... but that's a little too harsh in my opinion.
[This took me an extra hour to post because my net screwed up and i had to end process, restart pc and router several times... then restore session... and i wrote this a lot earlier than xsirhc did ><]
Lazy please review the several threads that you've migrated into... I guess the saying in my country "Now you know how it feels." Would make sense.lazysunside wrote:first you guys should talk this in a discussion room or something. Don't turn my welcome back post into a covert operative or something
Then I'll post my thoughts later
