Ooh! I've been waiting for these. I can't read too much writing on a screen... hurts my eyes. I'll hopefully get the hardback version just because, if you pay more, its gotta have some sorta extra to get people to buy it... maybe.

I know from experience with another series that sales figures are important, so I'm pretty lenient with criticism of any marketing they try to do that doesn't affect the actual material. The fact that they're still doing a version specifically targeting people who are already fans of the material rather than only releasing the version targeting young adults is more than a lot of companies who choose to go this direction will do; I get a big, wonderful hardbound edition is a bonus.
On the other hand, a large portion of Haruhi fandom (sos-dan) is already annoying enough as it is without throwing preppy suburban girls into the mix. I'm bracing myself for such exchanges as:
"Oh, you're into manga and anime. What other sort of stuff do you enjoy?"
"I don't like anime or manga, I just like Haruhi."
"I see."

*Nods*

Hopefully these publishers are working together to be consistent.. I think Haruhi (And Lucky Star) have a broad enough appeal to get over the Promo hype...
The novels, will launch in April 2009 with different editions targeted to anime/manga fans and to the broader YA audience. The paperback version, priced at $8.99, features a colorful step-back cover with no manga imagery. The novels will be shelved in the young adult sections of bookstores, according to Joseph Monti, Director of Paperbacks for Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. They will be advertised in the Alloy and dELia*s catalogs, which target tween girls, and promoted on MySpace and Facebook as well as a dedicated website. In addition, the publisher will promote Haruhi launch parties on websites popular with teen girls, with an offer of free gifts for girls who host them.

Little, Brown will also publish a hardcover edition of the novel, priced at $14.99, with the same cover as the Japanese original. Both editions will feature black-and-white spot illustrations and a color insert. “We are looking at it as two different markets, the fans who know Haruhi and the broader reading audience that doesn’t know her, that we want to introduce to her,” Hassler said.

The initial print run for the novel will be 60,000 copies, about 10,000 for the hardcover and 50,000 for the paperback, Monti said.

Yen and Little, Brown will cross-promote the properties by running an excerpt from the novel in the back of the manga and vice versa.

(Imagines AYA sounding like a valley girl and cringes)..

Let's hope they take off Nagato unlike the other series we know of.

Basically I'll say one thing, Buy something (Manga, Novel or Anime).. give them cause to continue to publish / maybe negotiate with the author and get the second Anime season going... (will not hold my breath, Blue is not my color).. /[done ranting]

Depends how long it takes for the originals to carry on... we could be up to 9 in ENGLAND by the time 10 is released ¬¬;

good point :banghead:
wonder why its taking so long, surely with 1-9 already released in japanese, the english equivalents could be quick to follow. Come to think of it, it is probably the same reason as to why novel 10 aint out yet, or season 2 for that matter....
