Wait, there are people who watch anime other than mine? I guess you can talk about them here then...

Kamichu!

Post by Dusanyu »

This is a Series with a heavy Shinto influence

Plot Summary (as far as I can go without spoiling)

The series about a Middle-School aged girl By the name of Yuri (described as being average) who One day Wakes up to find that She has become a kami (Arahitogami) and has no idea what kind of god she is or what her powers are
The series Follows her adventures and interactions with Other kami as she learns her duties.
The series takes place in Onomichi (locates in Hiroshima Prefecture) and many of the places shown in the series are real

Characters as we know you can’t have a “classroom anime” without a a supporting cast of classmates and friends

Yurie Hitotsubashi: main protagonist in the series. In the very first episode, she tells her best friend Mitsue that overnight she became a goddess. She is remarkably naive and simple-minded but always has the best intentions. She has a crush on Kenji Ninomiya. She also has a younger brother who has a crush on Miko, Matsuri's younger sister.

Matsuri Saegusa: person in charge of the Raifuku Shrine in Onomichi. She runs the shrine with her sister, Miko. Unlike Miko, she cannot see spirits without the charms that Yurie usually writes (thought it is stated in the manga by Miko, that she too could see spirits before).

Mitsue Shijo: urie's best friend. She's very down to earth but wishes that more interesting things would happen to her throughout the series. She is usually possessed by Yashima when he needs to communicate with Matsuri, who cannot see spirits.

Miko Saegusa: Matsuri's younger sister. She helps out in the shrine and has the ability to see spirits. Has a crush on Yurie's younger brother, Shoukichi.

Kenji Ninomiya: President and only member of his school's calligraphy club. He is quite aloof and a bit slow at realizing things. Often does calligraphy for the Raifuku shrine.

Yashima-sama: local god of the Raifuku shrine. He wishes to be a rock star thus resulting in him possessing Mitsue. He is also often seen with an Akita-inu that talks and aside from that he seems to be close friends with Miko Saegusa and he respects Yurie much more than he does himself.

This series is 16 episodes long
Fun series with enough of a twist to make it a good series for a Haruhi fan to enjoy

She becomes a kami, but has no idea what kind of kami she is...
That sounds like all kinds of fun :D

My list is already so backed up, though... I'll have to postpone this until I manage to get caught up.

At some point I must have gotten caught up, because I started on this a little while ago. It is indeed quite good (technically as well as content-wise), and I've been looking for a good window into Shintoism for quite some time (which I suspect this is considering the source of the recommendation), so... yeah, everybody go get it :D
