Actually, I might give it a 3 episode test because the voice acting has a good chance of being really really annoying, and it's not really the sort of thing you'd read/watch more than once.

Bakuman. A story about manga writers and artists created by the people who made Death Note. What comes to mind is over-the-top epic manga drawing backed by heavy breathing and ominous Latin chanting.

I've never read the manga, though, so I wouldn't know, but oh man I wish that was true so much. XD

Also: Shinrei Tantei Yakumo

My brother has read the manga so we were both pretty exited to see this on the list. He says it was good so I'm probably going to give it a watch.

Sadly, I haven't seen any of the anime that are getting sequels this season (save for Pokemon.. but that doesn't count), so that cuts out a lot for me. Aside from STY, I'll probably watch Bakuman, Star Driver (hard to go wrong with Bones. At the very least, it should have some quality animation), and MAYBE Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (yeah pretty much because it's being made by GAINAX), but as I'm a little burned-out on anime right now, I may not watch anything at all. I guess it just depends on how I'm feeling when they start airing. :P

-Shinrei Tantei Yakumo
-Fortune Arterial
-Bakuman
-Star Driver

Giving myself a fair few for once :3

So yeah, I just watched first episode (well... first two episodes in one) of Panty and Stocking with garter Belt...

That is the best thing I have ever watched. D:
____________

MM!... hmm... after the first episode I'm unconvinced, so I'll give it another 2 episodes. Perhaps it'll pull something out of a hat like Occult Academy did when I was about to give up early.

___________

Iron man is... OK. I imagine I'll probably watch it though. Stark seems to be portrayed somewhat unlike I recall, but then I've only ever seen a few episodes of the original cartoon and none of the comics.

__________

First episode of Bakuman had me smiling like a total madman. I REALLY think this one is gonna be a keeper.

Between this and PaSwGB, this season could be pretty good!

The cops in P&SwG, although useless, sure have a lot of heart.

Super robot wars OG: Inspector 1: I have less of an idea of what is going on in this show than Panty and Stocking.

Star Driver 1: Absolutely fabulous

Watched star Driver last night- was awesome... but damn did it make little sense. O_o

There was so much going on that was totally unexplained. Always good to have some mysery, but I wouldn't mind having a clue soon.

Galactic Bishounen... hehe.

___________

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo ep 1 was pretty good... I really like the look of this selection so far. This season could be quite good, if this standard holds.

Stuff that I'm not covering in a blog and may not be on the podcast:

Arakawa Under the Bridge 2: More of the same, and that's just how it should be. I liked 'Venus and Jesus' better, though.
Yosuga no Sora: This could really go either way at this point. Some subtle and not-so-subtle things suggest some interesting pathos at some point, but the whole thing is a bit messy and confusing when portraying characters' relationships. Some really bizarre humor (at least I think it was humor) and a sparing amount of fanservice could make or break this, so it's just too early to tell. The mix of CGI and good quality animation gives it an interesting atmosphere. No tables were harmed in the making of this episode.
Otome Youkai Zakuro: Its presentation is a little silly at times, but fortunately never insipid. It seems like it will mostly root itself in strong characterizations. I think this has potential provided it doesn't become ridiculous and properly develops its characters while expanding on metaphor of the westernization of Japan.
Shinryaku! Ika Musume: I'm pretty lukewarm on this so far. It's amusing, but sometimes it feels like it's trying just a little bit too hard. It's not bad as far as gag-based slice-of-life goes, but in such a saturated genre it's going to have to work hard to stand out. I want to like it, as I think the concept is cute and has potential, so hopefully it'll find its stride soon.

Waiting for Kuragehime is frustrating.

I don't actually know why I bothered, but Squid Girl was decent, if only for the latter half of the episode.

TWGOK 1: Really mediocre. In spite of the production values this really missed its mark mostly due to severe pacing issues which really detracted from the story, and perhaps the concept loses its novelty if followed through more than once. It's probably the same thing in the manga, but you have the advantage of the original "one shot," in terms of establishing setting and the characters. I'll give it one more episode to see if it improves, if not I'll just stick to the manga for my monthly update of spergin'.

I'm not even going to bother following up on the second episode of 'The World God Only Knows' because it was almost as boring as Bakuman.

Samurai girls 1: Okay, the first time I couldn't get through the episode, and the second time... eh, it's trying to be Sengoku Basara but with girls instead of dudes, HSOTD level fan service and (I predict) a whole bucket of boring harem cliches that will get tiresome very quickly. I'll give it ~one~ more chance to see if I like the next episode any better.

Edit: Not really digging the animation style either, seems a bit stiff and dull; and that inkblot effect got annoying after about the third time they used it.

And ep one of Kuragahime... wanna watch! Better be worth the wait, damnit. ;;

My main gripe with Bakuman is that the sole purpose of the main character is to tenaciously resist any kind of forward motion of the plot. This became exhausting after just one episode, so I really can't imagine dealing with that for an entire series. His love interest declaring that they won't speak again until his manga becomes an anime, at which point they'll immediately get married, nearly knocked me off balance from the enormous 'thud' the writer made when he jumped on board; it basically sounds like 'I need to give this character motivation but I can't be arsed to write a romantic subplot,' plus it wasn't believable in the slightest.

The main character from 'The World God Only Knows' pretty much sums up my main gripe with the show when he says: "I can see the ending!" The problem was that I could, too, and from a mile away. I didn't find any of the jokes funny. The whole episode felt very by-the-numbers and uninspired despite an interesting concept. I think the idea of the show is cute, but the execution fails to realize any potential it has.

Admittedly the whole 'but we can't see each other again' thing in bakuman was a little... 'wait? why? explain yourself damnit!' for me, also. It seems rather silly when they appear to be mid schoolyear, if I recall. The other things were less annoying to me; normally I'd find his pessimistic attitude infuriating, but somehow I wasn't that bothered. Perhaps it's just me ignoring the flaws due to being in a good mood, but I did thoroughly enjoy the episode.

For 'The World God Only Knows' I see the same problem as you, but I figured that was probably to be expected given the fact that there was only half an episode to sort it out after the introduction- They had to make the premise clear and I couldn't see it working stretched across two episodes. I'm quite looking forward to episode two to see how far they can actually take these.

Minor spoilers, but the Bakuman manga moves very quickly into the whole "making a comic" bit pretty quickly, and TWGOK becomes increasingly more elaborate and ridiculous, but I will agree that it was a flat starter.

Of course this is all due to prior knowledge (and there is a certain level of novelty involved in TWGOK that can and will annoy people,) so I can see the Nagato's point.

That maid show 1: Surprisingly charming. I kind of like the way they present the laid back cafe that just so happens to have maid outfits, but I really dislike the main character's awful, awful friend. She is as bad as Maria from Arakawa, but with way more screen time. Also, that end bit was creepy as hell (in a good way). Looks like I'll give it a chance.

(doesn't live up to the OP)

Togainou no Chi 1: Bland dudes fighting in bland landscapes. Yay. Don't bother.

Bakumanime 2: Yeah, this is starting to feel like this is better as a manga than an anime. Gonna give it one more episode.
Spoiler:
"A man has dreams that a woman cannot understand"
Oh Japan.

EDIT: I rescind this comment for Bakuman, because after some provided insight, it really seems more like a "boys will be boys" kind of thing.

P&SwG 2: That was... rather different to the first. O_o

Good still; just that the stories didn't work quite as well with the art. I wonder if they're just experimenting with different things and will come out with something to stick to soon.
______

Fortune Arterial 1:

I liked it. Full of old cliches and stuff, but still enjoyable. Another yes from me!

I'm really enjoying this season. Just Kuragahima left to try of my starting set. O-o

______

MM! 2:

Better than the previous episode- not amazing, but fun enough to watch.

______

Bakugan 2:

Another high note ending after so little action-- quite well done, since it STILL managed to be good.

TWGOK 2: Much better than the first! (although I do wish they had taken out one scene to give the mother more screen time). Better pacing than the first and things start picking up from the previous blandness.

Kind of miffed at Crunchyroll for changing Elsie's addressing of Keima as "God" to "Divine One." Did they think people would get offended or something?

It's arguably a closer English equivalent to the nuance of 神 than simply 'god,' but it's horribly awkward.

I still have no idea what to make of Yosuga no Sora.
Ika Musume is still cute and relaxing, although a bit creepier.
Kuragehime needs to get here.
