WINTER SEASON 2010/11: WELP.

Wait, there are people who watch anime other than mine? I guess you can talk about them here then...

A link to what?

Here's a fairly insightful season preview by The Cart Driver.

Oh, Remember My Lovecraft has started already. I thought he was talking about an announcement or something. I found it on YouTube, but I'm not familiar with the books at all and it doesn't really stand on its own, unfortunately. It did make me chuckle, though.

Disappearance DVD out next week wat.

Currently anticipating:
Hourou Musuko
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Fractale
GOSICK
Yumekui Merry (I'm going to give this a shot because the trailer was so different from what I expected)
Houkago no Pleiades

Still a sparse season considering the only shows I can be confident in are the noitaminA ones.

Disappearance DVD out next week wat.
^ Really? I've been waiting forever for that.

I have to admit, I'm drawing a bit of a blank for winter season. Its one of the first times that nothing's really jumped out at me so to speak. I'm curious about Yumekui Merry and Fractale, but its gonna be a bit of a trail and error for me to see what I'm even interested in this season.

...

I'm not really too excited about any off them at this point, though I'll probably end up liking several of them by season's end. (I'm not too picky.) If nothing else, at least it will give me some time to catch up on some stuff from past seasons I still need to watch.

Dubelposten:
Urobochi Gen (from Nitro+ is apparently writing the script for Magical Girl Madoka Magica. I have no idea what to expect from this show at this point, but I know I can wait to watch it.

Hmm, Fractale has just caught my eye. Directed by Yamamoto Yutaka, the same bloke who directed Haruhi, Lucky Star and Kannagi. Story seems interesting too.

No, he only directed two episodes of Haruhi plus the ED. And he only got through four episodes of Lucky Star before Kyoani fired him. He does, however, get credit as supervising director for Kannagi. And, er, Black Rock Shooter. :(

Hahahahaha

Which four episodes? You'd have to be p terrible to get fired from Lucky Star after making that stupid dance. I suppose BRS is indicative of that though.

Maybe this'll be the Gurren Lagann of Magical girl shows rather than Madoka Magica square head etc. etc.?

Probably not.

What STUPID dance are you talking about? Hmm? GO ON, DO TELL.

And I'm guessing he was fired after episode 04, because after that the series picked up.

~Rio~ episode 1: suffers from the male gaze pretty badly, as it is trying way too hard to shove T&A into every shot, the story is also p terrible so far but if it keeps doing utterly retarded twists at the end of every episode, I'll keep watching this (also the manager is voiced by Garterbelt). Basically yu-gi-oh with boobies and even more stupid.

I actually might start watching that after Scamp's glowing review of it. Every season can use some so-bad-it's-good.

Magical squarehead madoka ep 1: Everything about this show is pretty cool, except for the atrocious character design. Any serious or poignant moment will be ruined by the fact that most of the characters' faces look like a servbot with downs (I'm all for different art styles, but not this) . I'm gonna give it a 3 episode test to see if I can get used to it, but come on.

The character designs don't bother me at all, but the off-model animation in the first few minutes did.

Most of the art and animation was good. I especially liked how they made the characters move around a lot more than usual. Most of the time it looked great, but a couple of times they did things like this and this for some reason.

Yeah the animation was p nice, but in that really "intense" bit between Madoka and that other girl, I was laughing my ass off because it was like watching lego people doing a soap.

Also the
Spoiler:
attack of the sayonara zenbutsu sensei op
was pretty damn awesome, as well as all the crazy architecture.

Edit:

This literally happens every time they do a wide shot or a 3/4 view, yet they look "normal" in profile?? This style just really grinds my guts for some reason!

So Infinite Stratos has pretty CG and some of the dumbest writing I've ever seen.

Male lead accidentally throws away the textbook he's supposed to study before even going to school and therefore can't even comprehend the material covered on the first day.
Female lead attacks male lead because the school assigned them to be roommates and she likes to wander around the room in a towel without bothering to ask who's out there.
These immensely powerful armor suits were initially developed for use in space and are internationally banned from military applications. However, the development for use in space was halted, so now they're used for sporting events. I wish I were lying.
Despite apparently being a prodigy pilot, the male lead knows next to nothing about the equipment he's so good with and knows even less about the culture that has grown up around it.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea.
