The Avatar trailer is out... and it's not as bad as you think. Watch it here or in HD here.

M. Night. Shyamalan has produced some quirky movies in the past, and I have enjoyed them all. Plus I've watched the Nickolodean Avatar series, so hopefully this is a cracker.

Here are a few 720p screenshots I took, with summary. Warning! Spoilers for those of you who haven't seen the series!
Spoiler:
Aang airbends inside the Southern Air Temple.

Aang's face is revealed, showing his airbending master tattoo.

Aang filles the Southern Air Temple with wind, knocking some monks off the cliff. This would appear to be Aang's escape from the temple prior to his freezing near the South Pole.

The Fire Nation begins landing its troops. Given that, in the series, the Fire Nation attack didn't come until after Aang was frozen, this would appear to be a continuity change.

The Fire Nation navy is revealed. Note that their navy now has two classes of ships... the smaller landing craft, and the larger battleships. In the series, only the battleships were present.

The Fire Nation navy opens fire en masse on the temple.

Movie title, revealing the insignia of (from left to right) the Air Nomads, the Water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation. Each logo has been slightly redesigned.

Visually, it looks closer to the original series than I expected. I am glad they are staying true to canon! :cat_s:

I'm looking forward to this! I just hope M. Night doesn't have that much say on the story... I don't want a "twist" in the end...

M. Night has been trying to expand his horizons for a while now, but the studios have always demanded he keep making the same kind of films: horror and suspense. I think he deserves a chance to make an epic fantasy film, and judging from the trailer's cinematography, he has a solid grasp on how to film large-scale fantasy scenes.

Looks like it will have good special effects but bad acting.

You were able to judge the acting from that clip? O_o

My hopes are still high, but it seems it is going to be yet another movie that I shall have to wait for DVD release...

This film is an unqualified disaster. The reviews are horrendous.

I wish I could say I was surprised. :(

When Avatar was first advertised I thought it was this. I couldn't see why it would cost that much to make a film like the cartoon... later found out it was different and no longer cared. It looks terrible from them trailers though.

Well then, that makes it easy. I'll stick with the good memories from the cartoon series.
