I happened to be browsing /b/ at the begin of Obama's presidency. There was not a good word said for a few hours.

In fact, I just received a rather racially slurring joke via a text.

Well, racist attitudes and systematic discrimination are actually quite common in Japan. The Nihonjinron are a set of theories that were developed after World War II, each claiming that the Japanese were superior to everybody else, culturally, socially and even biologically. One theory even claims that the Japanese evolved from a separate species of primate than the rest of humanity. Of course, scientifically speaking, these theories are ludicrous... nevertheless, they are still embraced by those who would like to think that the Japanese are inherently superior. Sounds a bit like Nazi eugenics, no?
