AARGH!

Every time I close Firefox, my cookies vanish! I keep having to log back into various websites over and over. I've already checked the browser settings, and nothing else seems to be wrong... does anybody have any idea what the problem is?

UPDATE: Oddly enough, disabling the Google Gears add-on seems to have fixed the problem. I'd still like to know what's going on though...

Can you survive without google gears? I checked out what google gears is about, and it all seems to be about 'offline' manipulation of websites. But when are we ever offline these days? Broadband etc means I am on the internet 24/7 as are you. Is this a useful utility that you cannot live without, because I see no use for it in my case?
