This is the most-hyped series of the upcoming summer season. I'm definitely looking forward to it, especially since the manga has gotten rave reviews... plus it's being animated by MADHOUSE. Here's hoping it does the zombie genre justice!
I'm about six minutes in and I gotta say, you're definitely not wrong about the gratuitous fan service (just the op alone sweet Jesus) or the gratuitous violence. 12 mins now: has a Dawn of the dead feel but the op also seems to hint at some tongue-in-cheek Zombieland style moments later on as well. I expect good things.
ps God why is everyone so unfamiliar with zombies in these sort of shows, they've only been a horror icon for the past forty or so years
pps It must be the designs or the VAs, because I have never been so disturbed by cartoon violence before
Well, episode 2's out and we find a few friends amidst the zombie smashing, of particular note one Miss Busujima who brings some mighty fine kendo skills to the party. Fan-service seems to be at a much lower level than in the first episode, (although there is one other of the dramatis personæ that certainly ramps it up a little) but the action isn't taking a break. Nothing gets up to "PA announcement" levels of freakiness, unfortunately.
3/5
Also there's a bit after the credits that's important, so if you're not the kind to watch the previews or whatever, have a heads up.
Edit: Oh yah, completely forgot they censored some more of the gore, even on the AT-X version, so if ya want to catch it completely uncensored, the manga's probably your best bet.
Possibly. I can't really remember. Even if she is, those are some crazy fighting techniques for her to be pulling off. Plus, I'd like to know what kind of high school has a spear club. O_o
As for episode 6...well...let's just say my review won't be kind.

Aren't (anime) Japanese highschool clubs all student created? The SOS brigade and the Music club in K-On... the Drama club in Clannad.
All were started by the students or resurrected, at least.
Maybe one of the original students decided they'd like to teach a class there? Or perhaps a teacher just happened to know the art? Then again... you'd expect more people to have survived if there have to be tutors for the Kendo and Spear clubs.
Odd.
Anyway... yeah... too much boob in this episode. Slowed down too much. I did like the stuff happening at the bridge though. The gun geek's bit was fun also :3
How was that bit at the end remotely necessary? O_o
Well if you thought there was too much boobage in the last episode, then get ready cause ep 7 will try its best to top it. Things are bouncing and swinging all over the place while obviously cold samurai girl in a apron rides a hummer... Think I'm kidding?! Think again! I swear that with each episode every one of the main female cast's chests gets larger and larger as if they are trying to be the first to gain their own gravitational fields. And what was with that Mosaic?! Wow. Simply wow. Forget the storyline (there just isn't one, well not a good one) as this has just degraded to become total DD ecchi. Sure there is a pathetic attempt to add in a 'let's save that girl because we still have our humanity when others have lost theirs' plot. But can you really call it a plot?! I would love to rant about this but UGH! Just trying to figure out WTF is up with the writers gives me a headache. Its far easier to just forget it and imagine your watching a 'B' rated movie starring really bad acting strippers and P-rn stars. Its starting to look like this thing just wants to go H but can't quite make the full jump because there's one lone writer who's constantly insisting they try to put some semblance of a plot into it in order to keep it on the air.
To that I say... Dude give up the fight.
I've only recently been able to catch up on this anime, and I'm on episode 6 right now. Personally, I love it. I was glad that I'd read the reviews here first before watching, because it prepared me for all the boobs and panties. Not that I'm particularly complaining. ^^;
You've used me, and abused me, but you will not destroy me.
Maybe that is the defining point about this anime.
If you are forewarned, you go into it expecting gratuitous fan-service and thus your enjoyment of it isn't tainted with the longing for a defining storyline.
So, I've just finished watching ep 8, and personally I loved it. Ashira (?) I find her quite annoying, I'm not sure why.
Spoiler:
I liked how it seemed like it was going to be the end for them all, even after all the fighting and Takashi and Saeko had tried to draw the dead away, and then -BAM. Masses of people with shields and water guns eliminate the dead. Then *gasp* it's Takagi's mum. Who are the people she's with? Are they some kind of special force?

Yep, her. She's just a little too whiny for me, personally. But I did like that they saved her, I just hoped she'd had a better personality. ^^; So what can I say, after seeing what she went through?
I clicked on the spoiler, and the link, but it'd been removed due to violation purposes, so I don't know what it was about.

Just finished watching the ninth ep, it was pretty good. A few cool kick ass fight scenes, but mostly just bonding between Saeko and Takashi. And we learn a bit more about Saeko's past.
Spoiler:
She's a bit insane.
From what I saw in the preview for the 10th, it looks pretty good.
