The SOS Brigade @ Anime Expo® 2007

Here's where you get to discuss how totally awesome I am! That's right, a forum devoted to me, Haruhi Suzumiya. Post here a lot, especially if you're an alien, time traveler, esper, or a slider!

The SOS Brigade @ Anime Expo® 2007

Post by Shamisen »

May 25, 2007 (Anaheim, CA) – Anime Expo® 2007, Bandai Entertainment Inc., and Kadokawa Pictures USA announced today that the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will be celebrated at this year’s Anime Expo® convention, held at the Long Beach Convention Center June 29-July 2, 2007, with the “SOS Brigade Invasion Tour.”

The SOS Brigade is a reference to the school club formed by Haruhi Suzumiya, the eccentric lead character of this series, which has been nothing short of a phenomenon in Japan and is making its North American debut on DVD on May 29th 2007.

Aya Hirano (Haruhi), Yuko Goto (Mikuru), and Minori Chihara (Yuki), renowned worldwide for their performances in both the Haruhi television series and the character soundtracks will be attending as Official Guests of Honor at this year’s Anime Expo®.

In addition to appearing on panels and having autograph sessions, the three voice leads, will also be performing in a live concert on Saturday June 30th 2007 at 4:30 pm at the Long Beach Arena, next to the convention center. They will be performing such hit songs as “Bouken Desho Desho?” and “Hare Hare Yukai.” Winner of Bandai Entertainment Inc. Haruhi Dance contest will be allowed to come up on stage and perform the infamous dance with the voice actresses, live on stage. The concert will be free for Anime Expo® attendees.

“We are excited to be working with Anime Expo® and Kadokawa Pictures USA to bring the voice talents who have made Haruhi so successful in Japan for their first appearance in North America,” said Ken Iyadomi, President of Bandai Entertainment. “Please join us as the SOS Brigade Invasion continues.”

Man, I'd love to, but I'd need almost two weeks off of work and more money than I can spare at the moment for gas and lodging... :(

Im going, maybe I should try to dig up a digital camera to post pictures of the expo for you guys.

I went to AX in 03 and 04, but due to WoW and being scared for life by ManFaye I skipped a couple years lol. Looks like its going to be fun going back, plus the concert $$$$

I'll choose the latter.

Don't bother taking the camera to the arena unless you're official press, they will do the following:

Photography and recording of any kind are strictly prohibited during concert events with the exception of Anime Expo ® Archive Staff and pre-approved Press members from designated locations. By attending, you agree not to bring any photography or recording devices into the Arena. Any attendee(s), non-authorized press, or staff members discovered with functioning equipment will be subjected to immediate deletion of all media stored in the device and one strike on the badge. A second offense will result in media deletion, ejection from the Arena and badge revocation for the remainder of the convention at the discretion of Staff Pro employees and Anime Expo ® Staff.

Wow what camera Nazis. How are they going to stop people with super awesome cellphones I wonder. That arena sits 11,000.

Anyway, I can still grab pictures of the rest of the show.

I was there and you didnt miss alot actually. Well it was allright.

I waited in the sun for like over an hour to get in, pretty uneccessarily considering the seating was assigned but whatever. When finally got in they just ran out of $9 beer that i was so looking forward to.

Before the show started they had some haruhi dub outakes running that were pretty funny, also some clips from their adventures in voice acting dvd thing i belive. They kicked off the show to Mikuru's voice actress singing her battle waitress song, in the proper poor fashion, leading to confused stares from people who didnt know why it was so bad.

Then they marched up the lead girls (both Mikuru's, then haruhi's, then just yukis japanese VA cause Michlle Ruff couldnt attend) in pairs and had them both do lines from a particular scene.

Aya Hirano sang that boku boku densho song, then they went on with some more random stuff. Then Yuki's VA sang two songs, then some random stuff with Johnny Yong Bosch and the ASOS Brigade. Then Aya Hirano came back out and sang God Knows and Lost My Music. Finally, they marched all the dance contest people up and pretty much everyone in the whole show did the ending theme dance. Johnny Yong Bosch didnt know the moves so he just started busting out riverdance moves and stuff it was pretty funny.

That was it, it was marred by technical difficulties, and language barrier fun time.

I think im still glad i went. We'll see how this sunburn turns out :[
