Re: Time Flow
I second that suggestion.
I also agree with Jasper's advice. Right now, I'm also trying to find my own art style. At first, I wanted to do what you're doing and try to classify it into a certain, set kind. However, I learned it is better to just make your own style. To do that, keep practicing until you find a style which is both easy for you AND looks good. Once you've mastered that, you can tell what type of style it is.
And they usually don't fit cleanly into a certain set. Someone's style could be both realistic and sketchy, or some other combination. Just draw what you're comfortable with, push yourself to do it better, so then you'll find out what your unique style is.

I'm not sure how serious you are,but that is not the way to handle criticism..(even when misinterpreted)

Re: Time Flow
If you're using page 1 as a teaser, like I am... I suggest making sure it's entirely self-contained... no mid-speech deaths. It also needs to make you want... no... need to know what's going to come next.

Re: Time Flow
He meant that the teaser shouldn't be half way through something when it ends. So its like a really short story sort of thing. I suppose you could make it a sort of cliff hanger though. "To be continued..." and all that.

Re: Time Flow
It's not a teaser if it's not REALLY vague, but gripping.

Re: Time Flow
Negima! has *counts* 71 pages for chapter 1 and 27 for chapter 2...
It's not page count that dictates the chapter; it's the position in the story.
I suggest you write down every part of your story and split it into sections; I'll make up a few fake ideas.
1-
We meet the group and they have their first brigade meeting of the new year. Haruhi has already ordered a city-sweep search for mysteries.
2-
Yuki and Kyon are paired up to search the city. When they reach the library, Yuki immediately heads to the sci-fi area where They meet Tsuruya-san reading a book about nanotechnology. After bidding farewell they return to meet Haruhi.
It could be like that... or all one chapter; It depends on what is important. I suggest going over the events of each chapter in the closest novel to you.

Re: Time Flow
Yeah... backgrounds are hard. But at least you can use the same ones over and over... just draw them big. Draw huge rooms and take small areas for different frames.
How will you make your characters stand out against the background?

Re: Time Flow
I suggest not. Adding tone can make something look terrible if it's not near perfect already.

The Good news is i'm working hard on drawing manga.
