Doom and Gloom Corner
The world is a smaller place now with the internet and whatnot. Bad news seems to travel faster then the speed of light now
As the clock strikes 7pm I hear on the news that 41,000 people are estimated dead in Burma
41k up from a few hundred (initial reports) on monday.

Re: Doom and Gloom Corner
Shouldn't this be in random ramblings?
Besides... at least give a topic of discussion.

Re: Doom and Gloom Corner
i apologise
topic of this is to vent your spleen
anything that ticks you off, or happens to be happening. This morning senior diplomats are predicting 100k deaths in burma, yet official figure remains at 20,000.

I see.
Though, Lazy... if you don't understand a post DON'T REPLY... or at least ASK the meaning. This will happen a lot. Be careful not to offend.

Re: Doom and Gloom Corner
hey, i watched the match. i wanted raphael to win. hence the gloom, ok?
*swings the brain into coherent thought*
u could say this is just a random topic, cos im interested in how events shape the world. since they are usually BAD, i wouldnt mind seeing different peoples views of the same events from around the world. I do know that in China google is censored, so people from there would have very different views of, say, riots in tibet. I cant gauge my opinion of how the olympics will play out because i reckon im biased towards the tibetan side, since a hard fact about China is that it only shows the world to see what it wants known.
Now thinking about this is satisfying the 'gloom' component.

Re: Doom and Gloom Corner
In, writer, Terry Pratchett's discworld series, the parody of (fuedal) Japan and (Impirial) China is called the Aurient- so called because they he chose to make gold the most common metal (aurum being latin for gold).
He also chose to have the 'Agatean empire' (Jade Empire... obviously) believe that, outside the giant wall encompassing the place, there were only GHOSTS of humans.

Re: Doom and Gloom Corner
Asking my dad, who was there last year:
It seems that people behave themselves... in case they disappear. Other than that... there are one hell of a lot of bhuddists anyway.
That's my dad's answer, anyway.
