Full Metal Alchemist
Ok, so the new revamped series has begun airing.
And it is grade A awesome. Art style is less detailed then the original series (lets just call it FMAv1) in terms of character design but expressions and fluidity of animation is excellent. Not being a huge fan of v1, and having never read the manga, this provides re-newed interest, although at the time I did watch FMA from start to finish, including the movie.
So again the story starts somewhere in the middle of the brothers campaign to fix their taboo muddled mess, and I guess the next few episodes will be the standard introductory/back track style, just like v1. Only thing is i remember that roy mustang bloke being a heck of a lot more serious then depicted here, and that goes for the entire ep. It just feels more light hearted right off the mark then v1. That is not a complaint though.
so, it has a cool story, great animation and potential for winry fan service in the future.
I'm on for the ride.

Re: Full Metal Alchemist
Roy Mustang is really REALLY not a serious guy.
Oh yeah... Don't expect to see as much of Hughes this time round either. He was in the manga far less.
Anyway, the important part:
I have my internet back.
When I have downloaded a few things for Halo 3 I'll get and watch this! :3

Re: Full Metal Alchemist
Ok, so I have now watched it.
And I have to say that I am NOT impressed.
The whole episode was a completely flawed attempt to introduce the characters. Characters should be introduced as needed, not laid out on the desk with only the basic details there.
In fact I'm extremely unhappy with the way Mustang and Ed are portrayed.
If you're going to follow the story of something... do it right. Don't introduce characters before they're needed and make them seem so hollow. 'Philosopher's Stone' was just thrown around like it meant nothing... like it's the most common thing in the world.
Know in a story where you suddenly start thinking along the lines of 'Why does everyone seem to just know where things are? It's supposed to be a LOST/MYTHICAL sword. If so many people know this much about it... why hasn't it been found yet?'
Things have just been thrown out like word vomit in this episode. I really hope the next episode is far more captivating.
In fact... I'm starting to wonder if this is going to be completely bad. The original anime stuck to the manga until quite a way in. The problem here is that THIS series doesn't want to start out as a clone of the first.
But it probably should.

Re: Full Metal Alchemist
im going to remain ignorant of any story comparisons to the first series until this series has had a run for its money. I guess since I already know the story (or partly at least) I am not lost with all the random facts that, as you said, jasper, werre thrown about in this ep. I still came away feeling impressed, but that could be because the episode satisfied more my tastes in anime, rather then the original manga.

Wat... I've watched both the original anime and read the manga. The original anime is NOTHING like the manga story, which this follows. The manga is ongoing, for a start.

Re: Full Metal Alchemist
After 3 episodes it is definitely nothing like as good as either the original anime or the manga.
It's a bit crap actually. This episode was also so uncanon it hurt.

Sounds a bit like Negima!?
Years from now, people will be wondering why they made these shows.

Yeah... it's a shame Akamatsu's fantastic manga have been murdered so. I watched Love Hina once and liked it.
Then I watched something better. Chobits.
Now i can't stand it.

Not to mention the first Negima series was crap. I kept watching it, thinking "It'll get better when they get to the Evangeline arc!" but alas, it didn't.

Re: Full Metal Alchemist
i cant stand the loveHina anime fullstop...nothing like the manga at all. like you, jasper, i watched it first and enjoyed it...but then i read the manga, and bought the lot. the series could of been so much better, but, i guess like FMA is doing, it did not stay true to the manga.Pandemonium wrote:Yeah... it's a shame Akamatsu's fantastic manga have been murdered so. Re: Full Metal Alchemist
See... it's not the deviating from the manga, as such, that bothers me.
It's that it refuses blatantly to do what the other anime did. Because the other anime fit the manga almost perfectly until a way in it did it in the best way it could.
Since this new anime refuses so profusely to be start as revamp the old anime... all the things the original did well are denied. They feel the need to find an alternate way around it.
While i don't like how they're going around, it I WILL stick with it (at least until until the original anime meandered off). At that point the studio should feel far less restricted with what they can do.
Maybe they can pull a lion out of the hat.

Re: Full Metal Alchemist
Read the whole topic before posting something like that, Lazy... Its in the first post for god's sake. To answer the question, its not really a remake as the story goes in a completely different direction, following the manga more. It also follows on from a part of the original series. Its just like a relaunching of it following the manga's storyline.

Re: Full Metal Alchemist
Personally, I love the new series. The first 10 episodes kind of expected that you had already either read the manga or seen the first series, but you can't really blame them for that. Really, my only gripe is that they seem to be skipping through the story kind of fast, but I suppose that's better than adding a bunch of filler. At this rate, though, it's looking like it will have caught up with the manga by ep 50-60 or so. Could they be planning to have both the manga and anime end at the same time? Hmm...
On the subject of the lated chapters:

Yeah, the brotherhood anime has been the best anime running (in my opinion) for the last few seasons. And am still really enjoying it.

Re: Full Metal Alchemist
Seriously do not know where the current series is going to end at the moment. The manga is not very far ahead, and going through some massive story elements that are closing all the story loop holes. It. IS. AWESOME.
I am thinking that at the current pace the anime will finish at a coinciding point with the manga, then there might be a movie or something to finish it off, after a certain amount of manga chapters have been published. I want to see some aftermath, as I am a sucker for happy endings.

Just thought I'd mention that FMA is ending soon, both anime and manga...at the same time. It is going to be epic...
