This is terrible. I hope that the tsunami doesn't continue too into the pacific and they find those missing people alive.

Thanks for the links, especially the one to the Al-Jazeera stream.

Horrific stuff. :/ Also nuclear reactor cooler failure... yeesh.

At least I know my two friends are fine... as would be expected in Saitama, I imagine (though momo's tv fell over and broke).

The nuclear reactor is serious but it's not gonna be anything like a Chernobyl, the fires, the toxic sludge, power, missing people, aid and evacs are a much more immediate concern.

Kevin Cooney, aka TokyoCooney, is a reporter for NHK and a resident of Japan for over ten years. I used to watch his video's on life in japan. Here is his experience and analysis of the recent sendai disaster. If you have twenty minutes, sit down and watch.

Oof, a part of a reactor(?) on the power plant has blown up, and they're detecting low-level radiation on the grounds so it is probable that there is a minor leak. People are wary about another one going too. 4 injured with broken bones, conscious.

Oh yeah, if you see a map floating around about how the fallout's going to spew rads on the midwest, that's total BS.

Edit: some sites are saying death toll for earthquake and tsunami could be around 10,000 which is a pretty horrifying figure

I don't like how a lot of the media are taking certain aspects of this disaster and have begun extrapolating. We shall find out the figures on death tolls, nuclear facilities and damage in coming days.

Like with Christchurch, I can't help but feel helpless. Give me a spade or a backhoe, and I would be there.

Al Jazeera's liveblog is a good source for hard facts without the sensationalism.

Dur dur I am such a retard: I meant to include that it was a total estimated from the missing people (ie potentially just cut off from communications) as well. unfortunately they are starting to find bodies but \ a train that was reported missing was found!

An explosion has occurred at the #3 reactor at the Fukushima plant, but reports are stating that the containment equipment is fine. they are flooding the reactors with boron-laced sea water at this point, apparently.

this also surfaced

At the time of happening, this event shook me heavily. My mood was heavily melancholic for weeks, and I cried when ever someone would tell me of it. Though it is still occurring, my mind has cleared lately. I feel rather confused as I was hit harder by this disaster more than people in my school who had relative there.

It's just that it was not just my favorite country, but it was the country and culture that has formed as a person over the years of my teenage life.

Enough of my depressing recollitions ;; sorry for the necro.
