I'm planning on watching the first few episodes of Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi, The Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Mitsudomoe and Highschool of the Dead. Hopefully at least one of them turns out to be good.
A few of them look pretty awesome.
Highschool of the Dead instantly attracted me. ^^ and Mitsudomoe looks really cute.
And, oh my gods, Digimon. I remember when that first came out, but it's just not the same any more. I wish they'd air the first series on some of the channels over here.
Also Shi Ki, and Seitokai Yukiudomo [I already feel sorry for Takatoshi, xD].
I hope they'll be good enough for me to want to keep watching. ><
You've used me, and abused me, but you will not destroy me.
Intrigued by: Osaka Hamlet, Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Mitsudomoe
Will have a look at: Highschool of the Dead, Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin, Shi Ki, Ookamisan to Shichinin no Nakamatachi, Asobi ni Iku Yo
Plenty of series that seem interesting, most of all HSoTD. However, how the heck can there be another season of strike witches? I shall employ my brand new electromagnetic cookie pulse on anyone in this forum who liked the first season...
The first season of Strike Witches was, in my opinion, rather bland. It wasn't a bad show... just a mediocre one. Hopefully the second season can do better.
Seitokai Yakuindomo is...different. I don't know what to make of it. Yes it was funny to an extent, but I think a lot of the jokes were lost in translation. Still, its the different aspect I like the most. The episode is broken up into segments to mimic the short one column manga style. Worth watching episode 1.
The first episode of Occult academy wasn't too bad, but it wasn't necessarily great either. I liked the Evil Dead parody, but there wasn't anything that really stood out in terms of content or character. It looks nice though. I'll give it two more episodes to see if it goes anywhere interesting.
Actually, I lied. Occult Academy is actually pretty good! It's like one big homage to horror/sci-fi with a hard-as-nails female lead and the obligatory spineless guy, with a pretty good balance of cheese and creepy moments. I'd like to say it solid in its technical aspects (animation, voicework, etc.) but I didn't see anything wrong at all with Welcome to the NHK and its dub so apparently I'm a philistine in that aspect.
Spoiler:
References spotted: Terminator, War of the Worlds, psycho, Amityville horror.
Edit 2: After rewatching this episode, it suddenly became hard for me ignore the obvious parallels between the character Kozue (glasses girl) and this site's "patron saint." Here we are presented with two characters that are obsessed with the supernatural/occult, and yet only one of them really seems to stay consistent in their characterisation. Kozue goes out of her way to find "OOParts" and falls down cliffs to get black cats to cross her path, talks about UMAs and hides underneath the floor in the green house for meditative purposes in search of that "occult experience," while Haruhi can barely light a candle to that. Now it could be argued that she and her conviction is basically a caricature of the occult obsessed conspiracy nut (up until this episode, I think) or the result of real or imagined peer pressure and this is all basically comic relief, whereas Haruhi's... is the basis of the entire story. Yet, Haruhi spends her time playing baseball games and going to private beaches and something about that seems internally inconsistent, especially when this has gone on for about what nine, ten novels with barely a hint of this obsession being developed upon? C'mon she should be spooking around graveyards and so on. Anyway, sperging aside, this episode was really strong, I think, with it's great over the top and smooth animation, as well as the fabulous facial expressions of Maya to the continuation of the story.
tl;dr the Occult Academy episode was pretty great, and according to my bad memory for all her guff and thunder, Haruhi's a pretty lousy supernatural nut.
Sengoku Basara 5: Surprisingly reflective.
Edit: just gonna put it out there that SB has a really awesome soundtrack.
Occult Academy was pretty dull this week, whereas Sengoku Basara had a pirate flying around on a rocket-powered anchor blade. So I stand by my previous statement; show of the season.
