Re: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
I think the DVD is supposed to come out sometime in December, which is very fitting considering when the story takes place.
Oh, and that KyoAni obviously want to take advantage of the holiday rush.

Yeah, I think it comes out on the eighteenth, or whenever the date is for the story's beginning is.

Nothing makes sense anymore. Why does a series this popular suffer so much?

DVD release has come and gone, so those of you who did not watch this at the cinema or via camrip can enjoy it in a proper format. Now to wait for the English release, which will come out sometime after volume 11 is translated (hint: never).

Re: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
I liked this movie because haruhi wasn't in most of it. Seriously though, I felt that her acceptance (and justification for it) of the situation that the characters found themselves in was more than a little contrived. However, I did not mind the sequence in which because it was novel to see her actually showing empathy for once. Also the atmosphere was really well done, melancholic and alien, which works in tandem with AND. IT. HAS. CONFLICT. That glorious nectar of the narrative.
I'm starting to think that the author really disliked, or at least regretted writing the previous filler novels, as this contrasts severely to the aura of self-indulgence that they emanated. Now, if only Mr. Tanigawa would do more of this thing.

I totally called it first if the K-On! movie turns out to be twice that.Nagato wrote:This movie was three hours long. Holy God.
But anyway, here's a question to no one in particular: Which would you have preferred KyoAni had done? Fill the remaining episodes of Season 2 with Endless Eight copies and make Disappearance a movie (like they did), or fill the seven episodes with Disappearance as a story arc and have no movie at all?
Personally, I'm kind of indecisive.

Re: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
Endless Eight could have worked, it's just that apparently the studio had no intention of doing anything interesting with it. If they had done something like have different variations on the theme (like setting it in space or as a noire spy thriller or whatever) then yeah I wouldn't have minded the eight as long as they kept it fresh. As it stands, Endless eight should've been maybe two episodes, then do the movie and finish up with Disappearance. That said I wouldn't mind Disappearance being a movie anyway because it was an excellent adaptation (length issues aside), although if they could have somehow broken it up and kept the quality that would be p cool.GadgetTR wrote:I totally called it first if the K-On! movie turns out to be twice that.Nagato wrote:This movie was three hours long. Re: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
Disappearance worked well as a movie (even if it was too long), but I would rather Kyoto Animation have animated 'Charmed at First Sight Lover,' 'The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina' and 'Where Did the Cat Go?' and cut Endless Eight down to three episodes at the very most. Alas, I'm not in charge of Kyoto Animation's projects.
There's always been lingering animosity between the various main characters. Itsuki and Mikuru both told Kyon in no uncertain terms that he shouldn't trust the other too much, Mikuru's always been afraid of Nagato, and Nagato avoids Itsuki whenever possible. My only problem with the end of the Disappearance movie was that Kyon's spiel cursing god was not nearly as awesome as I remembered from the novel.

Re: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
Surely you mean Snow Mountain Syndrome? Because "Where Did the Cat Go?" is them literally sitting in a room and doing nothing at all other than guessing where the cat went. Charmed at first sight Lover would definitely be a good episode though (due to its implications.)Nagato wrote:Disappearance worked well as a movie (even if it was too long), but I would rather Kyoto Animation have animated 'Charmed at First Sight Lover,' 'The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina' and 'Where Did the Cat Go?' and cut Endless Eight down to three episodes at the very most. Snow mountain syndrome deserves 2 episodes, I think. 'Where did that cat go?' Isn't THAT boring,Ryu

Re: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
Had to look up the summary to refresh my memory, and you're right; it could actually be good, due to it's similarity to the "Lone Island Syndrome," (hopefully they'd take liberties or do something interesting with it 'cause the it doesn't quite have the impact that LIS did) but I'd animate SMS before WDTCG.

Re: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
Chronologically, yes. WDTCG came after Snow Mountain Syndrome.
Though if they were to be animated, wouldn't it be better to just combine them since they happen pretty much back to back?

Re: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
I meant that in a situation in which I was required to choose between the two I would animate SMS, rather than WDTCG. Hell, I'd animate Disappearance before Someday in the Rain or even The Boredom of etc

True. Though at this point, I'm just hoping they continue to animate, regardless.
But SMS would be a pretty good choice.
