To be perfectly honest, you are correct. The reason the artstyles so closely resemble the original is because I try to mimic the originals as closely as possible. This inherently because there's nothing I really feel like drawing in particular. I just copy other people's artwork to stay sharp. Though with a few minor adjustments I had quibbles with (mainly when I copy things from Michael Poe's artwork, I disagree with the way he does heads)
And yes, H-material (the well drawn stuff anyway) is surprisingly good reference material. I used to use Yuka Nakajima's work for reference actually.
And eh. As for where I learned.. I've just been drawing for as long as I can remember. It just makes nice practice for improving hand/eye coordination.

Yes.... motivational as it may be.lazysunside wrote:does this count as spam?
I know what you mean. Also, the biggest inspiration to draw is other people's work... so fanart is always fun and a good way to start. I find that your art is some of the best copy work I've seen (though... i was surprised by my little cusin's attempt at one of my drawings, quite recently o.o)

Eh, some old ones I forgot to put up ages ago.

Sarine Elle, Errant Story (22/06/06)
While I do rather like Michael Poe's artwork for the most part, I'm not really fond of the way he does the top of the heads in his works (the forehead is usually abit too low, and would end up with far too small a cranial cavity to properly fit the brain in.. the way he does the rest of the body though, makes him one of my favourite web artists), so I "fixed" it in my own copy of it. This would be Sarine Elle from Errant Story. I didnt like her short-haired form much, so I used the longer hair she had in her flashbacks and the prologue, along with the armour she used in the first few dozen chapters. I actually forgot the straps for the coat, thats why they look like they were added in as an afterthought. They were. (For those unfamiliar with Michael Poe or Errant Story, just google it or something)

Li Syaoron, Card Captor Sakura (07/10/06)
A friend had me do this one for her. I think I made the neck a tad bit too long, even by CLAMP character standards. Not much to say about it really.

Saika S. Falnese - Pastel Chime Continue (09/08/07)
The lovely swordswoman from Pastel Chime Continue, with all the skill of Saber (or not... but close enough) and knowledge of social norms best compared to that of a shoe. This is definitely not a very good angle.. and I'm not particularly happy with this one (it looked much better in the original concept, I swear). The forehead is abit too high, and the posture doesnt seem quite right. It isn't too bad, but the whole thing gives off an aura of being badly done somehow. I'll be redoing it soon I think.
And before you ask, the original model for this was.. you guessed it, a figurine. It's so much easier to copy artwork than translate a 3d object into something that resembles the original artstyle it came from.
And in progress.

Rider - Fate/Stay Night - In Progress
...To be honest, I'm NOT looking forward to doing the hair, and Im not happy how the body proportions turned out. It just seems abit off somehow. And yes, I lied, I'm not doing Emma afterall. You can blame me playing Hollow Ataraxia again.

Re: Katya's Art Gallery
It's been awhile. *dusts off thread*
Bored. Posting more.

Sumeet Aujla, Ragnarok Online (03/05/08)
Done by request, my guildmaster's Champion from Ragnarok Online. I think i made the forearms a tad skinny. Curse the lack of official art from which to base the details off of.

Justica von Einzbern, Ragnarok Online (03/05/080
No, not *THE* Justica Lizleihi von Einzbern from Nasuverse, but my Biochemist from RO named after her. If I had to do RO artwork, I might as well do my own character as well.
Possibly more to come.

Re: Katya's Art Gallery
Von Einsburn, eh? *goes to watch Fate/Stay night*
Illyasviel von Einzbern her name is in that. Looks younger, too. Her mother?
So similar though xD
I'd assume some link, but these things just end up extremely random.

Re: Katya's Art Gallery
Great Great Grandmother. She's only referenced in the Heaven's Feel scenario for the original Fate/Stay Night game. Their family's magic specialty in the story was Alchemy, hence naming my RO Alchemist after her. Family tree goes along the lines of "Justica Lizleihi Von Einzbern -> A few generations of unnamed successors -> Irisviel von Einzbern -> Illyasviel von Einzbern"

Re: Katya's Art Gallery
Almost forgot this one

Dargaizz, Ragnarok Online, (03/05/08)
After seeing the first 2, the rest of my RO guild is bugging me to do ones of their characters too.

Re: Katya's Art Gallery
I suggest drawing bigger, if you can. You seem to have a style that can easily be enlarged, which mine doesn't really work with.
If you ony have an A4 scanner just scan, overlap, then fade.
Shrink it back down on the pc... looks so much better. ;D

Re: Katya's Art Gallery
Yes, but that would involve work that I'd rather not be doing.

Tangent, Ragnarok Online (04/05/08)
Yet another one of my guildmates. About a dozen or so more to go. His character looked completely boring, so I gave it a general resemblance to Kotomine... and made him look abit psychotic, just for my own amusement... even if his real attitude is completely dull and by the book. (I secretly suspect the by-the-book people are the more insane ones among us)
