About Dustin

Dustin (aka Stilts) enjoys playing and yelling at video games, especially RPGs. He also likes super robot shows... the more outrageous the plot, the better!

Bakacast – We Are (Not) Amused

Poor Kaworu. You were the only good thing about Eva 3.33, and you were gone too soon.

I’m back from vacation, so it’s time to start the arduous process of getting caught up on anime. Well, at least get caught up on the previous season. On this episode of Bakacast, we finish up the spring shows and go through our listener question backlog. We’ll start the summer season and our retro review of Requiem from the Darkness on the next episode (which we’ll hopefully record on Monday).

You can find some of John Allisons’ album lists here and here. Unfortunately, his 2012 comics seem to have vanished from existence.

Bakacast – Anno’s Miracle

Sound the alarms. Pigs are flying, hell has frozen over, cats are sleeping with dogs and black is the new white. The sign of the end times is here: Anno actually created a version of Asuka that I find enjoyable.

Don’t worry too much, though. Reality won’t fully break until I find a harem show that’s legitimately great. So we should be safe for, oh, approximately an eternity.

Unfortunately, the next Bakacast will be delayed two weeks, as I’m leaving for vacation tomorrow morning and won’t be back for a week. Long-time listeners of Bakacast will know that I also won’t have internet access for the majority of this trip, making both watching anime and recording a podcast impossible. This means we’ll likely have to combine the end of spring with the beginning of summer.

So I guess it’s a good thing that there are, like, three summer shows that look like they’re worth a damn.

Bakacast Bonus – Don’t Take It Personally

bakadtip

“Woah!” I can hear you thinking. Don’t ask how I can hear thoughts. That’s not important. “Another Bakacast already? Is Dustin suddenly getting productive?”

The answer is no, sadly. This is not a normal episode of Bakacast. Megan and I have talked about how much we like Christine Love’s games multiple times, so we finally decided to just dedicate an entire bonus podcast to talking about one of them.

Don’t Take It Personally, Babe, It Just Ain’t Your Story is, I think, Love’s best-written game so far. Since this podcast contains spoilers for pretty much the whole game, I highly suggest playing through it at least once if you’re at all interested in it. It’s free, takes only a few hours to read through and doesn’t have any puzzles like Digital and Analogue do, so it’s arguably her most accessible game, too.

This week’s album art is once again provided by our prolific fanartist Kenneth Alexander. Thanks, dude!

We start our Eva Rebuild reviews this week, which prompts us to wonder just how much Anno (justifiably) hates the fanbase he’s created.

009 Re:Cyborg is like a Salvador Dali painting. It’s beautiful and visually striking, filled with imagery you won’t soon forget.

But it also doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Would it be to soon to make a dead baby joke?

Yeah?

Okay, never mind, then.

I’m just saying that A Modest Proposal becomes a whole lot more palatable when the food tastes like sushi.

I wonder how many of our episode titles have contained an innuendo? Probably half of them at this point.

This week on Bakacast, I unleash two weeks of pent-up frustration on Aku no Hana. Plus, we dive into our substantial backlog of listener questions like a child jumping on a pile of raked autumn leaves.

Bakacast – What the Hell, Gargantia?

bakagargantia

iTunes | Direct Download | RSS

As you will probably notice immediately, I could not host this week’s podcast, because I was helping a very good friend of mine who was in town planning his upcoming wedding. So, though I do love bantering with everyone, the only sensible choice was to bow out for a week and hand the reigns to Larry. He did a fine job, and was courteous enough to hold off on the listener questions until I came back (which is why this episode is actually shorter than an hour).

Anyway, have fun listening to Megan let loose on Gargantia, which totally deserved every bit of her anger. My comments in last week’s post about Titan and Gargantia being our only consistently good shows may have been premature.
