Bakacast – Stop Being Tsundere

Hey, happy Five-Days-After-New-Year, everybody!

I come bearing two podcast gifts. The first is this episodes, obviously, where Larry and I give our final judgements on the anime that’s finished this season. Plus, we choose our personal anime of the year.

The second podcast is one I recently started with a friend of mine from the Penny Arcade forums. It’s called Anime is for Jurps. I’m hosting it off-site and on a separate RSS feed for two reasons: one) neither of us is 100% certain we’ll manage to make it a regular thing and two) we swear a lot. When Larry started Project Haruhi, he wanted to keep it PG-13. I intend to respect that wish (the few times I’ve let R-rated cursing slip through into Bakacast were accidents resulting from laziness), so I don’t want our explicit language to get mixed into the same feed as Bakacast.

Oh, and this video might be helpful for understanding the title.

Hey, Merry Christmas, everybody!

On this episode, Larry and I celebrate the holidays by handing out high scores like stocking stuffers. Except to Arpreggio of Blue Steel. That show gets coal.

Also, we finally review the second episode of GITS Arise. Spoilers: it’s pretty radical.

See? Now that real life isn’t constantly intruding I can actually get stuff done. It’s not just that I’m lazy (though that certainly plays a role).

On this episode of Bakacast, I continue my solo reviews of Monogatari, Megan and I gush about how great Satsuki in Kill La Kill is, and both Arpeggio and Galilei Donna descend further into insanity.

However, I somehow forgot to do a review of Kyousougiga 8, largely because I’m the only one who watched it. I’ll review it and episode 9 together on the next episode. Sorry!

With Larry still recovering from surgery, Megan and I blast through all the episodes that have aired since our last podcast.

Or, more accurately, I give Megan a bunch of plot summaries for her to be boggled by, and then we tag-team Arpeggio of Blue Steel into the dirt.

It’s been a hell of a couple weeks here at Bakacast.

All three of us have had a lot on our plates, which meant the podcast had to take a back-seat for a bit. Hopefully our lives will settle down soon so we can get back to recording an releasing on a tighter schedule. Until then, please forgive us for being not so timely.

Sorry for the delay. This week was a bit hectic for me, so it took me a while to get around to editing the episode and putting it up.

On this week’s episode of Bakacast, we finally finish off the Mardock Scramble trilogy with character analysis via blackjack and a Google search that gives us the fascinating and horrifying truth behind what the hell a “balut” actually is.

Yup, I’m late.

Here’s the podcast. If we didn’t answer your listener question, it’s likely that we’re saving it for our next recording when Megan will be back.

Megan was busy with unavoidable real-world responsibilities, so that left just Larry and I to tackle this weeks episodes.

And tackle them we did, almost literally in some cases. While most shows maintained the level of quality we saw in their first episodes, Kill La Kill and (especially) Kara no Kyoukai left bad tastes in our metaphorical mouths.

We may have dropped three shows last episode, but those were quickly replaced by new ones airing for this one. Turns out this season might be pretty busy for us.

Which I suppose in a good thing. But it also means less time playing Pokemon. I have to breed the perfect team, guys.

This podcast is late because OH GOD SO MUCH HOMEWORK AND A FINAL EXAM FOR A REALLY SHORT ONLINE CLASS AAAAAAAAAH!

Though, if I’m completely honest, the new Pokemon just came out, and it’s really hard to resist the siren song of Mega Charizard X.

Anyway, welcome to our first episode for the fall 2013 season. We review a fair number of shows and actually don’t drop very many of them. Incredible! We might actually have a decent number of good shows this time.
