Requiem for a Friend

Duncan December 31 1996 - July 15 2013

December 31 1996 - July 15 2013

This morning I awoke to an empty house. For the first time in almost seventeen years, my friend and constant companion is not here. Just before eleven am yesterday, he made the journey from this world to the next. When trying to find the words to describe him I came across a couple of quotes, I’d like to include them here, they speak well.

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened.” - Anatole France

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe him to be worthy of such devotion." - Anonymous

Rest well old friend, you were loved and cherished by many.

I’m sorry for your loss. Remember the wonderful times together! Mine comes soon as 1/2 wolfhound lady is 14 and approaching her time.

I can relate since my family recently lost their German shepherd this past year. She was healthy except she had lost nerve connections to her hip. I can say for certain that she’s still on our minds.

Sorry to hear that. Our family dog, Copper, past away last year after being with us for 16 years. My eyes would instinctively travel to his bed, whenever I entered the living room, so it was pretty painful reminder each time I noted the empty space in those first few months. It gets better and you do come to remember the good times over the pain of losing them.
    All the best, mate.

  • Very sorry to hear about that, Larry. I’ve had many pets, and each one marked a chapter in my life in some way.
I just got a two month old Shih Tzu and, while he’s the smallest dog I’ve met, is he is the most lively. Being a bit down and out, the companionship of a dog is unmatched!

btw: is Duncan named after the Yo Yo company? :3

    • Thanks Matty… Duncan, being a Gordon Setter, was named after Duncan MacLeod of the Highlander TV series. Twas my daughter who named him…
