Bakacast – Cliff Tank

Well, I did it.

I watched Girls Und Panzer, and it’s all your fault.

In addition to our usual reviews, I talk about the first two episodes of this surprisingly not-terrible show with Larry. While I don’t hold the same love for it as Scamp and Inushinde, I have to admit I’m impressed that it turned out to be more entertaining than half the stuff we’re reviewing right now.

On this week’s episode of Bakacast, we have our shortest episode review ever.

Which show earns that distinction? It shouldn’t be too difficult to guess. Mostly because the timestamps will totally spoil the surprise.

Also, we have our first retro review of FLCL, which I’m going to have a lot of fun with simply because I’ll be able to put this B.A. in English to good use.

Bakacast – Boobcast

No matter what shows each new season holds for us, we always know that one thing will stay the same.

There will always be breasts. In both great size and quantity.

Whether those breasts are in a show that’s any good is an entirely different matter (no, I’m not still bitter about Battle Girls; why do you ask?).

Bakacast – Is That a Terabyte in Your Pants?

iTunes | Direct Download | RSS

It’s time, friends, for Fall 2012, which has a pretty good start with Shin Sekai Yori and Kyousogiga. Sadly, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun is exactly what we thought it would be: terrible and kinda sexist.

Also, we review the second Mardock Scramble movie, which is slightly less weird than the first movie only because it doesn’t contain Pervert Squad. It does, however, have a gay dolphin boyfriend and anti-gravity sharks.

Bakacast – A Startling Revelation

Megan rejoins the Bakacast crew to talk about Persona 4 episode 26 and answer listener questions. She’ll be back “fo’ real” next week when we dip into the new season.

Which means that Larry and I get to have one last fireside chat about how crappy Sword Art Online has gotten lately and how you all need to watch Tari Tari. No seriously, you do.

Please email listener questions to bakacast[at]projectharuhi.net or leave them in the comments below. However, if that question or comment is about Megan’s story at the beginning of the podcast DO NOT POST IT IN THE COMMENTS. Send it to the email address.

Bakacast – No Moreyashimon

iTunes | Direct Download | RSS

Humanity and Moyashimon are the first summer shows to take a bow. Frankly, they should have been pulled off the stage sooner. In fact, most of the shows this week take a sharp dip in quality, with the noteable exceptions of Tari Tari and Eureka.

Glen Update 2: Glen will be back on the next podcast to review Persona 26, answer listener questions and discuss the fall preview (which will be a bonus episode this time).

Bakacast – I’d Watch That Spinoff

iTunes Direct Download | RSS

A spinoff of a slice-of-life show that’s about a group of five friends who use their incredibly specific talents to bring music back to a fantasy land?

Yeah, sure, why not. I’ve watched weirder (and more terrible) shows.

Glen Update: We just recorded the next episode of Bakacast today, and Glen is not on it. He will likely not catch up on the rest of this season in time to talk about the final episodes of the shows we’ve been covering. However, he will be back on the NEXT next episode (the one we’ll record on the 26th) to at least talk about our impressions of the Fall season.

Bakacast – Sandwich Art Online

While many other Guild Wars 2 players are choosing Weaponsmithing or Huntsman for their crafting profession, I have chosen the secret best one.

Cooking.

I’m glad to know that the best character in Sword Art Online agrees with me.

Unfortunately, Glen is not yet back for this episode and–SPOILER ALERT–will not be on the next podcast, either. We’re hoping he’ll be caught up for the podcast we’ll record on September 19.

Bakacast – Eureka;Gate

iTunes Direct Download | RSS

Here’s a point in Eureka Seven AO’s favor: when presented with the “twist” of the timeline changing, it takes Ao only five minutes to figure out what’s happening, whereas Kyon (from The Disappearance of Haruhi) took about 40.

Three cheers for smart protagonists.

Bakacast – Crafting Pretty Dresses

iTunes Direct Download | RSS

Now, I understand that a lot of the appeal of MMOs is in coming together as a huge group to take down a massive boss.

But some of us just like to craft virtual clothes so we can play dress-up with virtual people.

Is that so wrong?
