On this episode of Bakacast, we finally review the first episode of Kara no Kyoukai and talk at length about the wonders of Netflix (and the many, many shows I feel compelled to watch).

Oh, also, Megan and I talk about Analogue and Hate Plus.

A lot.

Dang. It took me ten days to post this. Sure would be nice to have a vampire buddy who could use time travel powers.

In my defense, I just started college again and I’m still working around 30 hours a week, so my schedule’s been a bit full. That said, I’ll do my best to get the next podcast out much sooner.

Yet another album art courtesy of our friend Kenneth Alexander. And thanks to serendipitous timing, it actually fits with the stuff we talk about this week.

We skipped Monogatari this week due to it being a clip show, but the rest of the shows continue their fairly predictable trends. Well, except for our retro review. Yes, for the first time in Bakacast history, we dropped a retro review. And what will replace it? You’ll have to listen to find out.

Or just, like, use the timestamps, I guess.

Instead of choosing album artwork that has anything to do with the title of this week’s episode, how about I just use a fanart of JoJo and his dog? Is everyone cool with that?

Awesome.

Anyway, this week is surprisingly positive. Titan doesn’t waste time for once, the end of Monogatari’s first arc isn’t an anti-climax (and is probably the best conclusion an arc of that series has ever had) and Gatchaman proves it’s got substance to go with its style.

Yeah, sure, the Major’s cool and all, but I think we all know the real reason we watch Ghost in the Shell.

As you might have guessed, this week’s episode of Bakacast has us finally reviewing the first part of Ghost in the Shell: Arise. Spoilers: the worst thing about it is that there’s only one episode out right now. In other news, our love/hate relationship with Attack on Titan continues as usual, Watamote takes a tumble, and I begin to suspect I have made a poor decision.

Despite having a good number of shows to watch, we actually keep this podcast to a reasonable duration.

Though that might be because we didn’t have any new listener questions at the time of recording (which was before I posted the previous podcast).

Given all the stuff that’s been going on in our respective lives, it’s taken a while for us to get back up and running for summer season. But much like Araragi, even if we’re not always timely, we are at least persistent.

Between Larry and I, we manage to check out most of the shows worth giving a shot this season (and a couple that probably didn’t even deserve a chance). That said, it’s not all ranting and raving. There are some diamonds in this rough–more than we typically expect from the summer, anyway.

Bakacast – We Are (Not) Amused

Poor Kaworu. You were the only good thing about Eva 3.33, and you were gone too soon.

I’m back from vacation, so it’s time to start the arduous process of getting caught up on anime. Well, at least get caught up on the previous season. On this episode of Bakacast, we finish up the spring shows and go through our listener question backlog. We’ll start the summer season and our retro review of Requiem from the Darkness on the next episode (which we’ll hopefully record on Monday).

You can find some of John Allisons’ album lists here and here. Unfortunately, his 2012 comics seem to have vanished from existence.

Bakacast – Anno’s Miracle

Sound the alarms. Pigs are flying, hell has frozen over, cats are sleeping with dogs and black is the new white. The sign of the end times is here: Anno actually created a version of Asuka that I find enjoyable.

Don’t worry too much, though. Reality won’t fully break until I find a harem show that’s legitimately great. So we should be safe for, oh, approximately an eternity.

Unfortunately, the next Bakacast will be delayed two weeks, as I’m leaving for vacation tomorrow morning and won’t be back for a week. Long-time listeners of Bakacast will know that I also won’t have internet access for the majority of this trip, making both watching anime and recording a podcast impossible. This means we’ll likely have to combine the end of spring with the beginning of summer.

So I guess it’s a good thing that there are, like, three summer shows that look like they’re worth a damn.

Bakacast Bonus – Don’t Take It Personally

bakadtip

“Woah!” I can hear you thinking. Don’t ask how I can hear thoughts. That’s not important. “Another Bakacast already? Is Dustin suddenly getting productive?”

The answer is no, sadly. This is not a normal episode of Bakacast. Megan and I have talked about how much we like Christine Love’s games multiple times, so we finally decided to just dedicate an entire bonus podcast to talking about one of them.

Don’t Take It Personally, Babe, It Just Ain’t Your Story is, I think, Love’s best-written game so far. Since this podcast contains spoilers for pretty much the whole game, I highly suggest playing through it at least once if you’re at all interested in it. It’s free, takes only a few hours to read through and doesn’t have any puzzles like Digital and Analogue do, so it’s arguably her most accessible game, too.
