Bakacast – We Are Not Spinal Tap

iTunes Direct Download | RSS

On this episode of Bakacast, we bid a semi-fond farewell to the Fall 2010 season and share what we're looking forward to (or dreading) in the coming winter. But first, I guess there might be more Lucky Star in our future? Who knows! And, more to the point, who cares? Frankly, we're more interested in the recent Disappearance of Haruhi Suzimiya movie, which kicks off our review segment.

Ever wanted to hear me lose my temper? Well, you'll get your chance when Jon and I battle it out during the Panty & Stocking discussion (though at least we can all agree that the soundtrack is fantastic). And to make sure this episode was extra special, we captured Thomas from Stepping Up to the Anime Plate so he could give us his thoughts on MM!

We cover:

  • The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
  • Panty & Stocking #13
  • Otome Youkai Zakuro #13
  • Squid Girl #12
  • Iron Man #12
  • MM!
  • Star Driver #13

Since the winter season's shows won't debut before our normal podcast recording time, we'll be doing things a little differently next week. How different? Well, you'll just have to wait and see...

About Dustin

Dustin (aka Stilts) enjoys playing and yelling at video games, especially RPGs. He also likes super robot shows… the more outrageous the plot, the better!

  • Dusty’s impression of Corset is scarily good. O_O;

    • His bondage lacks restraint.

  • ???

I would be up for another season of Lucky Channel

Well yeah, the OVA isn’t really that much. It is just around 6 to 7 minutes long and doesn’t do the manga any justice. It skips around and doesn’t tell much of what is going on or who the characters are. It is more of a 7 minute trailer. I personally raged when I saw it, just due to the fact I thought it was at least going to be 30 minutes so they could maybe tell a coherent story. I hope it does get a proper adaptation someday as the manga just finished and it is only 12 volumes long. I do strongly recommend the manga if you like crazy psychopathic people, it is also one of my favorites.

As for the for the stuff I am looking forward to, I already watched Mazinkaizer SKL which is manly to the extreme. Wandering Son and Fractale get a free pass for me since they are both noitamina shows and so far noitamina has never steered me wrong. Besides that I just have Freezing, because I like blood, gore, and women beating the tar out of each other.

Btw, (in case anyone was curious) the MM! specials aren’t worth much.
Just as I expected from XEBEC, (the same studio from Ladies vs Butlers) both specials put together last almost three minutes of nothing but useless fanservice. I liked the series despite its repetition, but the only special that sparked some curiosity into me was the second one (which vaguely hints for a possible second season). Ah well, its not like I was expecting much~

  • I watched the first three episodes of Squid Girl and I thought it was cute. The jokes aren’t as strong as the other animes in the same category but I enjoyed it mostly because of the Squid Girl. The other characters are OK but I think they needed more distinct personality for my taste.
Do you guys recommend me to see rest of the episodes? I generally enjoy slice of life animes like Minamike, Lucky Star and K-ON.
