Celebrities visiting Japan have always had to deal with some pretty wacky stuff, and the Harry Potter stars are certainly no strangers to unusual promotional stunts. However, nothing I’ve seen tops this video of a Japanese fan meeting Rupert Grint (Ron Weasly).
AKB48 On Music Fighter
Japanese theater/pop group AKB48 recently appeared on Music Fighter, and did a live version of their new single Namida Suprise. Although the singing isn’t quite as good as the PV version, it does feature some nice dancing… and lots of cute girls.

Additionally, there is now a version of Namida Suprise with poorly done subtitles, which can be found here.
Yamakan at Otakon 09

Japanator has posted a transcript of Yamakan’s various Q&A sessions at Otakon. He touched a bit on Haruhi’s first season, as well as his other works. Here are some interesting excerpts…
Kyoani Responds to Yamakan

Yutaka Yamamoto’s thoughts on Endless Eight, which found there way onto Youtube last weekend, have elicited a response from Kyoto Animation. Essentially, they deny that Yamakan ever had anything to do with Endless Eight. Their attitude can best be summed up in this quote.
This person has absolutely nothing to do with our company.
Kyoani is also claiming that Kadokawa is the primary influence behind the current E8 arc. I’m guessing this is just the beginning of the finger pointing…

SOS Brigade Greenscreen Challenge

What can YOU do with the SOS Brigade Seitenkan’s greenscreen photos? This is your chance to show us! Here’s how the contest works…
Rules:
1. Using the greenscreen photos as a starting point, you must create a new image featuring all four brigade members. You can stick them on a spaceship, or have them floating on a raft at sea… it’s up to you! You can use Photoshop, GIMP, Painttool Sai, or whatever program you desire to modify the images. Be as creative as possible!
2. All entries must be submitted by the contest deadline of August 3rd, 12:00 AM Eastern.
3. Post your final entry in the forum thread, in the form of a JPEG or PNG image. If your image is wider than 640 pixels, provide a link to the full-size image. Only one entry per user… but you can change your entry all you like up until the contest deadline. Keep it PG-13.
4. The winning image will be chosen by our administrator, Shamisen, and will be featured on Project Haruhi’s front page.
That about sums it up. Have fun, everyone!
Green Screen Brigade
The SOS Brigade Seitenkan has provided some nice shots of themselves next to their brand-new greenscreen. First up is Kyon and Kyonko, both looking quite frustrated.
Former Kyoani Director’s Thoughts on Endless Eight

Yutaka Yamamoto, the director of the first season of Haruhi who left Kyoani in 2007, voiced his thoughts on the current Endless Eight arc during an Otakon panel.

To tell you the truth… I knew this was gonna happen a year ago.
Not to make self-excuses or anything… the concept of this idea was floating around when I was still at Kyoto Animation, and I was against it. I said, “Two episodes is the most you can do.” But, as a person who left Kyoto Animation of his own volition, I can’t help but feel somewhat responsible for the way Haruhi is now. So, I’d like to say, as a member of the SOS Brigade Committee, I apologize.
SOS Brigade Seitenkan Video Debut
Our British Haruhi friends, the SOS Brigade Seitenkan, have given us a taste of what they have planned in the near future. This first video is their rendition of Bouken Desho Desho, done in a style that brings to mind “The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00”. Also included is a nicely choreographed Hare Hare Yukai.
Project Haruhi is now on Twitter!
For no apparent reason, Project Haruhi is now on Twitter! Now you can stay up-to-date with PH’s latest tweets. It’s basically a pipe of our RSS feed (it actually updates faster than the RSS O_O), and it’s there for those of you who wish to follow us that way. Enjoy!
ANN Interviews Kurt Hassler

ANN recently interviewed Kurt Hassler, one of the founders of Yen Press (the company that is releasing the Haruhi light novels in English). During their interview, they turned to the subject of Haruhi. That portion of the interview can be read below.
