Doctor Who Gets Animated In Fan-Made Short

I honestly didn’t think I’d see the day when British sci-fi was combined with the stylings of late-80’s Japanese animation, but then Paul “OtaKing” Johnson decided to do just that. Johnson is working on animated short based on the adventures of the third Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee.

The other two videos are after the jump.

As a long-time Doctor Who fan, I’m really liking what Johnson is doing, and I’m excited to see how the final product looks. However, there is one thing that irritates the heck out of me: his original character designs. To put it nicely, they don’t fit. At all.

To be clear, the problem isn’t the character designs themselves, but rather where they’re being used. The two kids who run into the Daleks and the Doctor’s sidekick simply don’t look like they’re meant to exist in Doctor Who. The aesthetics don’t match. Ideally, I shouldn’t be able to tell which characters were created by Johnson and which ones came from the show. Instead, I’m reminded of wish-fulfillment fan-fiction every time I see the Doctor’s assistant.

But hey, maybe I’m being unreasonable. What are your impressions?
