Disney, being the marketing geniuses executive meddlers that they are, have decided to record their own pop version of the theme song from Hayao Miyazaki’s new film Ponyo. The final product, which makes use of the vocal “talents” of Frankie Jonas and Noah Cyrus, as well as heavy manipulation by Auto-Tune, can be heard in the comparison video below.
Now, before you break into spasms of nerdrage… this new song only plays over the movie’s closing credits. Miyazaki’s original film remains unviolated by American pop music. Of course, had Disney chose to place this song over the opening credits, Miyazaki would likely have hunted every Disney executive down and slain them himself. He doesn’t take very kindly to anybody meddling with his work.
