K-ON!! is coming!

HOORAY!
The second season of everybody’s favorite moeblob slice-of-life anime premiers this week.  Since about half of our staff loves K-ON!! and half utterly loath it, I’d say this is going to be an interesting spring season here on Project Haruhi. Personally, I’m looking forward to this show; the first season was a lighthearted and enjoyable (if shallow) offering, and there’s no reason to suspect the second season will be any different. How about you, dear readers? Are you excited… or are you planning on hiding in your moe-proof bunkers until this storm blows over?

Incidentally, if you’re so inclined, you can follow the REAL Ritsu on Twitter. She’ll be keeping us up-to-date on the latest K-ON!! news, merchandise and fanart… provided she remembers tweet regularly. I’ll remind Mio to crack the whip on poor Ricchan. Also, a more in-depth discussion of K-ON!! can be found on our forums.

Akiyama Mio On The Brain Part Two

Recently I posted about a new K-ON! figure of Akiyama Mio, and upon reading you may have sensed, through the marvels of the interweb, my prolific drooling. Well prepare for another onslaught as Kyoani have finally posted colour pictures and opened up preordering for this 1/8th scale lovely, retailing for 8,000 yen. More after the jump.

Do You Have Akiyama Mio On The Brain?

Okay, its been a few months now. My over inflated negative opinion on K-ON! has cooled a bit, such that now I can just appreciate the sheer merchandise cash cow the series has become. Even now, Kyo-ani are still milking away furiously with calloused fingers producing memorabilia like K-ON! backpacks. However while a lot of these products are just sheer wastes of  hard earned moula, this new figure of Akiyama Mio is drop-dead gorgeous. More after the jump.

Hatsune Miku Goes Global

Hatsune Miku, Japan’s most popular virtual idol, will be making her first international “appearance” in concert at the Singapore Anime Festival Asia 2009. The act, known as Hatsune Miku LIVE! Performance, will use a projection screen to create a giant image of the Vocaloid singing and dancing. This same technique was used earlier this year in the Animelo Summer Live 2009 Re:bridge concert in Saitama, Japan, where it wooed 25,000 screaming fans. Hopefully, the reaction in Signapore will be just as enthusiastic.

Additionally, the main voice cast from K-On! will also be at AFA09. However, instead of singing, they will be dubbing a scene from the show live and taking pre-submitted questions. I’m don’t know why they’re hesitant to appear in concert, but I’m sure there’s a reason…

Miku, K-On! and Good Smile Themes for Google Chrome!

Google Chrome’s theme feature recently went live, and among the dozens of themes offered are some interesting otaku-related choices.

These Chrome themes join dozens of others available on Google’s website, including such geek-oriented choices as Super Monkey Ball, Ratchet and Clank and Bayonetta. It seems like the folks at Google are just as big of nerds as we are!

These themes can be activated simply by visiting the theme page in Chrome and clicking on the “Apply theme” button. Here are the relevant links.

Now if Google would only add live bookmarking and Rikaichan to Chrome, I would drop Firefox faster than a flaming vulpine.
