In recent weeks there have been numerous articles all over the interweb explaining the coming demise of manga aggregator websites. All the big hitters in manga publishing have formed a “multi-national manga anti-piracy coalition“, aiming to stem the flow of un-authorised content distribution through popular websites such as MangaHelpers, One Manga, Mangafox etc. These websites became popular with readers because of how easily they could tap into the scanlations available online, display them all together on one webpage, and as a bonus the owners could charge some ad revenue as well. Now, MangaHelpers is the latest of websites to take the cue and jump ship after threats from the anti piracy coalition to threaten offending websites with legal action. More after the jump.
One night. One place. 300 people, some of whom WILL be cross dressers. Sound exciting? Yes, our favorite brigade leader will be in Los Angeles on the 24th of June, starring on the big screen for one night only. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, the recent feature length film from Kyoto-animation and Kadokawa, will be making a short and un-dubbed debut in the Laemmel Sunset 5 cinema in L.A.
Thats fantastic for the people in L.A, but what about the rest of us? Sure there some of us are closer to the west coast then others (*glares* @ Ritsu), but I am in a completely different country, let alone hemisphere. Where is that DVD release, Kadokawa? Hmm?
For those of you who are lucky enough to grab some tickets, be sure to drop us a line or something. It would be interesting to hear what sitting through a movie will be like whilst in the seat next to you there is a 6’5″ man dressed as a Japanese school girl.
Good Smile have finally released some preview coloured photos of their yet to be released Senjougahara Hitagi figure. Now if you are like me and adore figures, you have been drooling over this since you caught that first glimpse of an unpainted prototype. So get ready to grab the napkin (or bucket) and behold! More after the jump.
One of the latest offerings from Goodsmile is the “Red Rose Cavalier” Seena, from the JRPG game Shining Wind. Before I delve any further into bluster about how I have already preordered Seena, it should be known by you, dear reader, that she is based on designs by the well known manga artist Tony Taka. Know of him? You should. A simple google search will “reveal” a huge amount about this fellow and his art. Explore his world, if you will, but be warned: you can never turn back. And don’t research his doings while you are at work either…be told. More after the jump…
Just a short post before I make my way westwards in my journey of life and career. This year there have been lots of prototype figures released that all have the potential to blow my mind as well as my wallet; chief of whom is Senjogahara Hitagi from the SHAFT anime series Bakemonogatari.
Hooray for the Superbowl! Not for the game itself, but for the TV goodies that are broadcasted with it! Click the video for a new trailer of the up-and-coming movie The Last Airbender, directed by M. Night. Shyamalan. More after the jump…
Recently I posted about a new K-ON! figure of Akiyama Mio, and upon reading you may have sensed, through the marvels of the interweb, my prolific drooling. Well prepare for another onslaught as Kyoani have finally posted colour pictures and opened up preordering for this 1/8th scale lovely, retailing for 8,000 yen. More after the jump.
Great news for Bakemonogatari fanboys (i.e. me), figurine fanboys (also me) and devotees of GoodSmile (yup, again), because GSC has pulled out ALL of their fingers with this new figure of Senjogahara Hitagi.
We are really getting close to the cinema showing date for the up and coming film The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and the trickle of news items is starting to increase. Minori Chihara, the voice behind Yuki Nagato, has appeared in a six minute long video of her song Yasashii Bōkyaku. While I personally find the song a bit whiny, the video depicts the scenes in Tokyo upon which the Suzumiya series were based in and around. Examples include the hill rising towards the school, the entrance area, the old clubhouse, etc.
Also, in other news Bandai Entertainment has licensed the DVD’s of the second season of Haruhi for the USA. Unfortunately, this also means another dub into English; a waste of time and effort which I frown upon. How anyone can listen and then favour the English dub over the original (and superior) Japanese casting is beyond me.
Okay, its been a few months now. My over inflated negative opinion on K-ON! has cooled a bit, such that now I can just appreciate the sheer merchandise cash cow the series has become. Even now, Kyo-ani are still milking away furiously with calloused fingers producing memorabilia like K-ON! backpacks. However while a lot of these products are just sheer wastes of hard earned moula, this new figure of Akiyama Mio is drop-dead gorgeous. More after the jump.
